WARSAW (Reuters) - Polish admirers of Ronald Reagan plan to raise a statue of the former U.S president in Warsaw, where he is revered for his role in the downfall of communism in Europe.

The 3.5-meter (3.8-yard) stone-and-bronze statue will stand across from the U.S. Embassy, the head of the group raising money for the memorial said on Monday. The group includes Poles living in Poland, Canada and the United States....

2. Lucky lucky Warsaw.
We're erecting it over there so we don't have to erect it here.

Haven't the Poles suffered enough?

11. I think we just ran out of things to name
after him. Is there any town without a Reagan Blvd, Reagan library or Reagan conference center? Yeesh, enough is enough.

While we're at it, they can have the U.S.S. George H. W. Bush - unles we want to re-name it "The Father Of Failure" in 2007.

Reagan and the White House just drooled and watched it happen.

The Military-Industrial complex shit it's pants.

Gorbachev let it happen.

After the assassination, Reagan would sleep through meetings, drool, fall asleep during a sentence, forget the names of his direct co-workers and cabinet, ask hilariously inane questions, babble, and generally act like an 80 year old man who had been nearly killed by a bullet.

The man had no role in freeing Poland other than not fucking it up. Gorbachev was THE instrumental figure in this, because he let it happen. He did nothing to stop the breakup of the Soviet Union, and so populist movements were allowed to blossom where they had not before.

Those crediting Reagan for the Berlin Wall falling are gullible, partisan stooges. That speech Reagan gave at the Wall would have never occurred if the Soviets truly opposed it.

They could no longer afford to financially support their crumbling empire, so the Gorbachev administration made a calculated decision to look like liberators in an attempt to keep the dissolution from cascading into a regional war. And it worked, largely.

As far as the statue goes, insert Polish joke here.

That's still an improvement over the current Deciduator, er, Decider.

16. You are right about Gorbachev,
but you will never see Poles willingly put up a statue of a Russian in their country. Poland's (understandable) hatred of Russia has very long historical roots.
