Iran warns could hit back after journalists barred from U.S.

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran warned on Tuesday it could take measures against U.S. media after the United States denied visas to 15 Iranian journalists who were to accompany President Mahmud Ahmadinejad to New York.

The culture and Islamic guidance ministry warned Tehran could impose restrictions on bureaux of U.S. media in Iran or U.S. journalists seeking visas after Washington's "inappropriate and anti-cultural move", the IRNA agency reported.

"If this attitude continues and Iranian reporters face restrictions for visiting this country, the ministry will put on its agenda some necessary measures like rejecting visa applications or cancelling the license of those (U.S.) media active in Iran," said Mohammad Hossein Khoshvaght, director general of foreign media and press at the ministry.
