Senators ready to axe Bolton
September 20, 2006

WASHINGTON: John Bolton - US President George W. Bush's controversial ambassador to the UN - is in increasing danger of losing his job next January after renewed opposition to his appointment in the US Senate.

Mr Bush's nomination of Mr Bolton to the UN met such opposition on Capitol Hill last year that he was forced to install the outspoken conservative in the post by means of a recess appointment, when Congress was not in session.

That appointment in August 2005 limited Mr Bolton's tenure to the duration of the current Congress, which concludes on January 3, 2007, unless the Senate formally confirms him before then.

The White House had hoped to get Mr Bolton confirmed this month, but Senate approval is looking increasingly unlikely.

1. GOOD! He looks like a buffoon sitting there in the General Assembly
Any self-respecting man would shave off that stupid mustache or at least dye it. His behavior is just as embarrassing.

8. I heard Condi had to take a pee break ... true?
Didn't see more than the first 20 seconds of the speech (once he got to the "9/11" part I tuned out!). Seeing the two of them (who was the third guy, Hadley?) made me think of the Three Stooges.

3. We don't need bully bolton as United States Ambassador to the U.N.
It is bad enough that he is a recess appointment. He is part of the shrub cabal that has tarnished our reputation around the world.

4. It is good news, but...
I'm sure Bush has several more equally if not more slimy buffoons to ram down our throats. There seems to be an endless supply.

9. Calm the celebrations. Bush could recess appoint him again.
The only stipulation is that he couldn't be paid from the public purse. You think that'll hurt him?

13. Before Bush, US ambassadors to the UN used to be respectable.
He has sent them garbage.

Also, the UN should move outside the U.S. so our right-wing pResidents won't be able to screw with the visas of the ambassadors of other countries and their staffs, a TRULY hideous, shabby, embarrassing, swinish, heavy-handed bit of muscle-flexing.
