Bush says he'd send troops into Pakistan
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Wednesday he would order military action inside Pakistan if intelligence indicated that Osama bin Laden or other top terror leaders were hiding there. "Absolutely," Bush said in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

With bin Laden still at large five years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and believed to be hiding somewhere along the mountainous border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Bush disputed any suggestion that Pakistan has not done enough to hunt down terrorist leaders.

Bush meets Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf at the White House on Friday and again next week.

"I view President Musharraf as somebody who would like to bring al-Qaida to justice," Bush said. "There's no question there is a kind of a hostile territory in the remote regions of Pakistan that makes it easier for somebody to hide."

2. Bush would send troops inside Pakistan to catch bin Laden
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/09/20/bush.intv/index.html

President Bush said Wednesday he would order U.S. forces to go after Osama bin Laden inside Pakistan if he received good intelligence on the fugitive al Qaeda leader's location.

"Absolutely," Bush told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an interview scheduled for air Wednesday afternoon.

Although Pakistan has said it won't allow U.S. troops to operate within its territory, "we would take the action necessary to bring him to justice."

But Pakistan's president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, told reporters Wednesday at the United Nations that his government would oppose any U.S. action in its territory.

"We wouldn't like to allow that at all. We will do it ourselves," he said.

3. I thought Pakistan had to invite us
At least, that's what he said on Friday when the subject of bin Laden came up. We couldn't invade Pakistan without their permission. Now he's back to his preemptive Bush doctrine. Well, I'm sure the glaring inconsistencies, following so close on one another, were seized upon by Blitzer who proceeded to grill Mr. Bush mercilessly, right?

Okay, I'm kidding of course. Wolf simply wiped his chin, muttered "Thank you, Mr. President," and picked up his $20 off the dresser on his way out.

10. Last week King George was answering questions ...
at a press conference, when I think, David Gregory from NBC
News asked him about sending troops to Pakistan to get OBL.
The King replied, "We can't do that, Pakistan is a
sovereign country."
2 questions came to mind when I heard that statement:
1) Since when did a sovereign country become a condition NOT
to invade? (Hello, IRAQ & AFGHANISTAN)
2) How does he know about sovereignty? Several years back he
couldn't answer a simple question about sovereignty.

He's such a

20. You sure?
The administration had a pretty damn good chance at Tora Bora and decided to blow it.

Republicans are not even the least bit serious about catching Osama or going after extremist Islamic terrorists. Their insistance that Iraq is part of the "war on terror" is good enough indication of that.

knew where bin Laden was: George W. Bush. We knew Osama was trapped at Tora Bora, a request for troops was made by the CIA agent responsible for getting bin Laden, and the request was denied. We asked Afghani militia to do it instead, and they went up there and invited bin Laden to leave.

Our military is spread out so thin that if Bush pulls them out from anywhere to go into Pakistan, which won't be a picnic, he would leave an opening for someone else.

25. Real Possibility
This could be the October surprise. Not actually getting bin Laden but putting troops in Pakistan to "pursue" him.

Musharaff has already made his peace with bin Laden and his supporters in Pakistan's government by promising to "live and let live". If the U.S. puts troops inside his borders, he just throws up his hands and does nothing. NOTHING. He lets the radical Islamists in Pakistan attack U.S. troops, he lets the U.S. attack those pesky terrorists in NE Pakistan that have been making him miserable and he issues a strongly worded protest about sovereignty, territorial rights, etc. etc.

Pakistan's military depends upon U.S. made hardware, they can't bite the hand that feeds them.

Whatever the outcome, for the elections we will hear: "we're fighting them over there instead of over here", "OBL Dead or Alive", "Bush is strong on terror" blah, blah, blah, with a massive turn out of the rethuglican base.

Press Conference, Rose Garden
September 15, 2006

Q Thank you, Mr. President. Earlier this week, you told a group of journalists that you thought the idea of sending special forces to Pakistan to hunt down bin Laden was a strategy that would not work.

THE PRESIDENT: Yes.

Q Now, recently you've also --

THE PRESIDENT: Because, first of all, Pakistan is a sovereign nation.

Q Well, recently you've also described bin Laden as a sort of modern day Hitler or Mussolini. And I'm wondering why, if you can explain why you think it's a bad idea to send more resources to hunt down bin Laden, wherever he is?

THE PRESIDENT: We are, Richard. Thank you. Thanks for asking the question. They were asking me about somebody's report, well, special forces here -- Pakistan -- if he is in Pakistan, as this person thought he might be, who is asking the question -- Pakistan is a sovereign nation. In order for us to send thousands of troops into a sovereign nation, we've got to be invited by the government of Pakistan.

29. s**t-head liar will not touch Pakistan--remember 28 deleted pages
in report to 9/11 commission--I used to think they had something to do with his buddies in Saudi Arabia but a recent DU discussion (sorry, I would never be able to find it now) made me see they were probably about Pakistan (and also showed me I am woefully ignorant about this area of 9/11 links/ties).

Is there ONE journalist out there who will call him on his "but Pakistan is a sovereign nation" BULLSHIT??!! Why the FUCK doesn't somebody ask him why that didn't stop him from invading Iraq?? That excuse is so sorry-ass and transparent I can't believe someone hasn't thrown up in his face. DOH!! hello, we are total fucking morans who will believe ANYthing this dumbass says, no matter how inconsistent, transparently false, or patently absurd.
