New Orleans nursing home owners indicted
New Orleans nursing home owners indicted

By MARY FOSTER, Associated Press Writer 8 minutes ago

CHALMETTE, La. - The owners of a nursing home where 35 patients died in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina were indicted Wednesday on charges of negligent homicide and cruelty to the infirm.

Salvador and Mabel Mangano were initially arrested about two weeks after the Aug. 29, 2005, storm. They own St. Rita's nursing home in St. Bernard Parish, a coastal suburb of New Orleans badly flooded by Katrina.

2. no shit. if these people are responsible for 35 then bush,
chertoff and brown, for starters, should surely be indicted for hundreds or thousands of deaths.

5. As a matter of fact, their defense is that if the levees had held,

(i.e. had been designed and maintained properly), their evacuation plan would have been adequate.

12. And, the defense is correct
These people should so not be indicted. They aren't muredrers... although some DUers were baying for their blood last year.

Katrina didn't kill people, the neglected levees and the government did. The hurricane was NOT the killer.

6. Scape goats
They asked for help and didn't get it, like the rest of the folks down here.

This is passing the buck. Blaming the victim. Should they be sued? Maybe. Indicted? Only after Chertoff and Brown are in jail.

They also indicted a nurse and doctor who administered fatal doses of painkillers to terminal patients after five days of hand-ventilating them in the dark, and having to triage patients in order to save some. Instead of a medal, they get 20 to life.

To be fair, this is part buck passing and part warped Catholic crap.

7. NOLADEM you nailed it....
These people should not spend the rest of their lives in prison....the Nurse should not be punished.....The neocons paint this picture of a perfect world and what they would have done...they weren't there and I don't see how they or anyone can question the actions of the people who were in the thick of it....

The ultimate responsibility should be on * cabals shoulders and their failure to call the military, the national guard and any other rescue units the very day the Hurricane hit....Criminal Negligence, Brownie, Condi, *, Rove, Cheney.....Where were they? * Fundraiser, Cheney-Fishing, Condi-Buying expensive shoes, Rove-? Brownie-worried about his clothes and his next meal while people were dying....

11. irony: St. Rita is the patron saint of compassion and reconciliation
amongst disputing family members.

Those nursing home owners should have at least gotten some of those folks out....
