Officials fear early deaths, want to find out impact of ground zero dust

WASHINGTON - Federal health officials have drawn up a plan for autopsies of Sept. 11 workers when they die, to determine whether they were slowly killed by their exposure to World Trade Center dust.

New York lawmakers said Wednesday they fear rising numbers of early deaths among ground zero workers. They called for hearings and a new, nearly $2 billion treatment program for sick workers and lower Manhattan residents.

The federal coordinator of Sept. 11 health issues, John Howard, found coroners around the country need specific instructions for conducting autopsies on those exposed to World Trade Center dust and debris.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., insisted Wednesday that at least seven people had died from the toxic exposure. The federal guidelines maintain that a direct link has yet to be proven, but say that autopsies and tissue collection could help make the case.

Actually they will find concrete in their lungs. I know several rescue workers, who are all on portable respirators, who have concrete in their lungs now. They describe their experience as breathing in ground glass.

Sad...and criminal.

I wonder why they are planning autopsies when they
are denying there is a "9/11 Syndrome".

4. Bush will outsource/privatize autopsies to favored donors.

We have learned that Bush and his neocon cabal see every disaster as an opportunity for profits. How ironic that the federal govt. will pay for the autopsies but is denying responsibility for paying for medical care. In fact the federal govt., i.e, Bush, will rewrite the autopsy protocols (reports) just the way he had James Connaughton, the Director of The White House Council on Environmental Quality rewrite the EPA reports to falsify the safety of returning to Ground Zero. Any investigation into cause of death should be under the oversight of a group with the stature and credibility of the National Academy of Science.

it will be Wall Street as well... although on a longer, slower term basis...They had people in on the day after trying to get those systems back together.
