Candidate wants health care for laid-off workers, uninsured kids
RONNIE GLASSBERG
Staff Writer

KANNAPOLIS - At a medical clinic offering free care to former Pillowtex workers, U.S. Senate candidate Erskine Bowles pledged Wednesday to push to provide health coverage to laid-off workers and uninsured children.

Bowles, a Charlotte investment banker and former White House chief of staff who lost the 2002 Senate race to Republican Elizabeth Dole, announced in September that he would again seek the Democratic nomination.

"We've got the greatest health care," Bowles said. "We just don't have a good delivery system."

In the hallway of the medical clinic, Bowles talked about health care with internist Dr. Kenny Tokunboh, who has offered free care for former Pillowtex workers and their families.
