Iran Warns of ‘Lightning’ Response to Any Attack

Iran warned Western powers Sept. 22 the armed forces would hit back “like lightning” against any attack as it crowed over its military prowess and showed off firepower at a major army parade.

Thousands of members of the armed forces and the whole panoply of Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal were on display at the parade, including the Shahab-3, a weapon whose range includes Israel.

”We want peace but we warn the expansionists not to think of an aggression against Iran as we can defend the fatherland and Islam,” Vice President Parviz Davoodi warned.

”Our lions are so powerful that they can strike the enemy like lightning and destroy him,” he added.

THE number of civilians slain across Iraq climbed to unprecedented levels in July and August, with 6599 people killed by violence in that time.

A report from the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq said the July total of 3590 deaths was unprecedented since the US-led invasion in 2003, while the August figure of 3009, though lower, was also among the worst yet.

Many of those killed were tortured to death with cables, acid and power drills, the report said.

Two days ago two 16 year old kids drove a stolen car through the main gate at MacDill AFB in Tampa, home of the Central Command where all the high level allied forces decisons are made regarding the war in the ME. Not only did they make it through the main gate but they drove right past the CentCom HQ on their joyride around the base.



The incident raised questions about security on the base, which houses the planning center for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“The incident will be investigated by our security personnel to look at what happened, to look at how the individuals gained access to the base,” said Lt. Larry van der Oord, a MacDill spokesman.

12. I read a paper in a defense and security journal

Outlining the likely result of an Iran-U.S. war, written in 2004 or 2005. While they said the U.S. could and probably would prevail, it would take serious causalities - probably about 5000 dead and 20000 badly wounded. Iranian military deaths would be 5 to 10 times that. They were only talking about an invasion, not the occupation that would be required afterwards. As we know, that's another story.

Of course this was written before the U.S. military had been worn down by the occupation of Iraq as much as it has. An analysis that took that into account might be far bleaker, from the U.S. point of view.

I can't tell exactly, but it seems like the buildup is only just beginning. However, mid-November seems to be the ideal time to strike, both politically and weather-wise.

I've been thinking that the one way to tell when the invasion is going to go down is to watch China's buildup of troops along the straights of Taiwan. As soon as America commits its last large reserve to Iran, Taiwan is going down, but just before that, we should expect to see Chinese "exercises" being planned nearby.

WISH they could attack Iran, but they won't dare, neither before, during or after any elections. They've been slapped in the face by cold reality in Iraq, and it's all they can hope to do to keep up enough troop strength to keep the lid on it. So #1, a land invasion is totally out of the question. An air-only attack might have some partial success at knocking out Iran's nuke facilities (a huge number, spread all around the country.....they learned the lessons of Israel's successful '81 attack on Iraq's nuke program). But before the first American sorties were even back on the ground, they would be targeting our assets all over the MidEast region. They can hurt us badly. And if they chose, Iran and Venezuela could both turn off their oil spickets, sending oil prices into the stratospere and the world economy into chaos. They also have the ability to create much greater havoc for us in Iraq. And there are also Hezbollah operatives and cells in the US, currently on "quiet" status, that could be activated; They have a lot of sympathers in some metro areas, most notably in Michigan which I think had the biggest Hezbo rallies (in Dearborn during the Lebanese conflict. The Rep party would probably be swept out in the next national elections, and they know it. World opinion would completely blow up against us, and all for what? We don't even know that we could set their program back more than a few years. Bush is just sabre rattling; they started some of these leaks on purpose. That's fine, it was a decent gamble that maybe it would get China and Russia to agree to sancions. But nobody is buying it at this point. Everybody knows we are a weakened tiger now, up to 80% paper in composition. Amazing what one bad war can do to change an outward appearance of "invincibility". Same with Israel.....We're the big tiger and their the little tiger.

Iran is going to get nukes, and obviously that's bad too. But Bushco is going to be forced to admit to themselves it's the lesser or 2 evils. They're not quite as crazy as is rumored around here :)

I can't. I see the writing on the wall everywhere. The completion of fourteen fortresses in Iraq, so a skeleton force can hide out for years there while the majority of troops in Iraq go elsewhere. The recall of a corps' worth of Marines from civilian life, and the majority of our Marine Expeditionary units on duty and somewhere near the Persian Gulf right now. The British redeploying to the Iranian border and openly talking of moving out of the Shatt-al-Arab. The refusal of the US, UK, and Australia to send more special forces to Afghanistan as the Taliban regains its strength. The same bullshit games of false intelligence and audience preparation with media complicity. The same rumors of infiltration already taking place.

The issue isn't Iranian nukes, it's control and distribution of the Iranian oil and natural gas fields along the Persian Gulf coast, and the Iranians changing their exchange medium from dollars to euros. The neocons want to deny those resources to China and they'll cut it off entirely if they have to--more profit for American oilmen if they do. This is, after all, the New American Century, and the only way it's going to be that way is if we undercut the Chinese.

The only thing missing so far is a casus belli, and this government seems to have made a specialty out of false-flag operations. I expect to see the false flag operation in the week before the November elections, either a border incident or a shipping incident, or maybe a video of Osama sipping tea in Teheran. Not less than two weeks later, we're going in.

I will be happy to be wrong, of course.
