No injuries or arrests as shots fired at Melbourne (FL) mosque
<snip>

"Shots were fired at a mosque as members celebrated the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, but no injuries or arrests were reported, authorities said Saturday.

A member of the Islamic Society of Brevard County stepped outside of the mosque Friday night to use his cell phone when he heard several gun shots, the Melbourne police department said.

The member, who was not immediately identified, took cover behind a wall as several rounds struck the building's south side, police said. He then ran inside and told mosque members, who called police.

Authorities searched the surrounding area for suspects but found none. The FBI and Joint Terrorism Task Force were helping with the search, police spokeswoman Jill Frederiksen said Saturday."

8. I live in Melbourne, FL
this is a freeper town. I see TONS of Bush '04, anti UN, and other similar stickers on the backs of cars. Racism is abound in this town. Even the hindu stores are being called "sand-ni**ers" now. This city is terrible for that. Even my family (on my estranged father's side whom I do not speak with and pretty much disowned me once I became a free thinking individual around the age of 12) are horrible when it comes to being a decent human being, and they're "strong catholics" who believe in "being good". I'm suprised it took this long. We're one of those towns with 2 WalMart Supercenters, and 2 WalMart Marketplaces that have helped put all but ONE Winn-Dixie out of business. Thank god we still have a Wild Oats (natural food store which I work at) which is mostly full of green/democrats who work and shop there. Once I'm done with film school, me and my daughter are the hell out of here.

3. I wonder if this
correlates to the rather bigoted comments of the Howard government of late regarding 'radical' muslims having to prove their loyality. Shit like that tends to green light the whackos...

4. That would be a possibility
if this had happened in Australia instead of Florida.

5. Oh damn...LOL
Me dumb...

They got a Melbourne down there!!... jeez next you'll tell me that Paris is in Texas

Well same thing still fits...if the Prez thinks their all fascists then there are probably some that figure fighting fascism by shooting up a church is a noble struggle...they are all guilty and they are all out to get us!! (Kinda of flattering if you think about it...we want to get us because we are so damn important)

The belligerent racism of elites is universal these days...

9. Nah, not
dumb. I read it the same way at first. And btw, with the Islamaphobia you see demonstrated daily on such cesspools as freerepublic, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.

7. Disgusting!
The fact that anyone attacks a house of worship with violence is inexcusable!

12. Used to live near there, it was a big Klan area.
At least thats what we believed, in high school. There were rumors that if you went to a certain area in Wabasso at night you'd see them.

13. Was a crime even committed?
After all, if the shooter reasonably believed that the mosque presented an imminent threat of physical danger to himself or herself, under current Florida law, I believe the shooter would have a legal defense to any charges.

I'm less clear, however, on whether the shooter would have to shout "It's coming right at me!" at the mosque before blazing away. Perhaps a legal beagle from Florida could let us know about any statutory requirement.

14. ROFL... "It's coming right at me!"
I got the mental image of a mosque on feet like Baba Yaga's hut, running down the street. There's very little to laugh about these days - thanks :-)

No, this clown committed a crime under Florida law, no question. That's a funny mental image, though.
