Al-Qaeda Linked Group Posts Video Of U.S. Soldiers
An al-Qaeda-Linked Group Posted a Web video Saturday purporting to show the bodies of two American soldiers being dragged behind a truck, then set on fire in apparent retaliation for the rape-slaying of a young Iraqi woman by U.S. troops from the same unit.

The Mujahedeen Shura Council—an umbrella organization of insurgent groups, including al-Qaeda in Iraq—posted another video in June showing the soldiers’ mutilated bodies, and claiming it killed them. It was not clear whether the video posted Saturday was a continuation of that footage, or why it was released.

The video showed masked men dragging the corpses, first by hand, then behind a truck, beheading one of them and then setting them on fire.

Do you think our soldiers should behave that way too? Is everything a false dilemma in this war?

13. And I would venture that to discard the Geneva Convention,
when it comes to prisoners of war (no matter what you call them), is to make the situation worse. If we allow torture--like waterboarding--to continue in U.S. prisons, will that improve the situation on the ground in Iraq? What will that do for our soldiers?

15. We're just as barbaric except we don't tape our acts.
...well actually that one time in Afghanistan an Australian station captured our soldiers burning bodies and taunting people in the area over loud speakers to come get the bodies.

The actual quote from Sgt. Jim Baker the one on the loud speaker was "You allowed your fighters to be laid down facing west and burnt. You are too scared to retrieve their bodies. This just proves you are the lady boys we always believed you to be."

but but but we're not barbaric animals because we have better weapons and the folks on our side who perpetrate these wonderful acts are not brown like those iraqi wackies. :patriot: :sarcasm:

2. Just as bush needs a boost, here comes a video of barbarism from Iraq.
We really don't know who is making these videos, do we? And we really don't know if those are the unfortunate soldiers who died for Green's atrocities, do we?

After all this time of silence, now the video comes out? *sniff sniff** I smell a skunk.

19. No, not suggesting this is a U.S. film at all.
Heavens no. And definitely not suggesting these soldiers were murdered by our own.

I'm simply wondering why this film comes out now, and do we know that these are actually the soldiers that suffered retribution for Green's actions? How difficult is it to get a soldier's uniform and dress another dead body and stage this sort of thing? Forgive me if it sounds far-fetched, but without proof of identification, it's so hard to say that it's these two particular soldiers who were so heinously murdered.

I will never forget that the beheading of Nick Berg came at just the opportune time to deflect attention from the investigation of Abu Ghraib. I also keep in mind that there are many factions in Iraq that will use any means to bring attention to themselves and their cause. There's a real power struggle going on over there, as we all know.

As for the GOP struggling to regain its hold as the "tough on terror" party, the more barbaric the other side appears, then the more lenience is given to bush to go all out and do whatever is necessary to them. After all, how can it be bad to torture people who do this kind of sh*t? At least that's the reasoning that would go on the minds of many people, where torture is not to get information but merely to exact revenge.

I hope that clears it up. Sorry for the prior inarticulate post.

38. of course not...
...al-Qaeda has learned that whatever serves the GOP's electoral prospects also serves their cause: keeping GOP's in power to prosecute a barbaric war that boosts their recruitment and status within the Muslim global community. In 2004, an OBL tape was released exhorting US voters to re-elect Bush as the best thing that could happen to al-Qaeda, and being the morons we are, we did...with the utterly predictable results. Now, as we approach the 2006 mid-terms, al-Qaeda is just as scared of a Democratic victory as the GOP's are (although with far less reason, not understanding the true dynamics of American politics as well as they believe they do), and are doing their part to keep the GOP's in power by scaring the US public with another, extended clip of a snuff video. In case you haven't figured it out yet, al-Qaeda and the GOP have a sympatheticly symboitic relationship, and feed on/off one another for mutual benefit...this latest video is just the most recent example thereof.

could be capable of such barbarism. Bullshit! To that I say "GITMO and ABU GARAB." It's due mostly to the poor leadership and tacit approval of torture by General Officers like Miller. :grr:

Newsflash: Dear Leader just legalized torture. Now we are no better than the SAVAGE enemy, albeit we may just beat them to death vice cut their heads off.

Dead is dead! :puke:

On Edit: Yes! Dear Leader gets a boost from these hideous videos. It's great fun for the RW to puff out their chests and brag how we are gonna beat the truth out of these savage brown people. :(

and for the past 24 years I've been married to a Marine (now retired). Semper Fi!

So, Listen up! Despite what you may think, we set the moral standard. It doesn't mean squat what they do to us because we are MORALLY above savage behavior and the spewing of hatred that leads to such abuse.

It's about being a professional, it's about being proud of the Country you serve that you wish to not do anything to Dishonor her image of Freedom and Liberty.

The Leadership is tacitly supporting this torture. The leadership sets the tone and they should be held accountable for war crimes.

So don't give me this jingoistic bull shit. I love my country and have served her honorably in Military Intelligence.

What we don't need is to lose our MORAL COMPASS because our Executive Branch is ruling us through Fear and Terror Threats. Let cooler heads prevail.

Our soldiers are following orders. That's what they're expected to do.

Wars always yield things like rape, torture, and murder; some produce it more than others.

...as they are? No, of course not: we're worse, because we're the PROACTIVE side here, while al-Qaeda is merely the REACTIVE side--if Junior didn't have U.S. stormtrooping all over the planet killing and torturing for Halliburton, Bechtel, Blackwater, and the rest of the GOP's A-List Rolodex of contributors, al-Qaeda would be a minor nuisance to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, not the US.

20. suggesting the bodies may be these two US soldiers.

....It was impossible to identify the bodies, but the footage was believed to be of Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, and Pfc. Thomas Tucker, 25, who went missing after being attacked by insurgents on June 16 at a checkpoint south of Baghdad. Their remains were found three days later, and the U.S. military said they had been mutilated.

al-Queda comes out with a video just in time to let Americans see that they tortured America Soldiers.

Now little boy bu$h can proclaim that we need to do the same to them and they can ride that rage of the America voter right into November.

These videos and there timing are just too damn suspicious.

44. RIP Abeer, Hadeel, Qassim, Fakhriya. RIP Kristian, Thomas
http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/news/15598146.htm
(clip)The video showed masked men dragging the corpses and later setting them on fire. Below the graphic footage is a subtitle: "The two soldiers belong to the same brigade of the soldier who raped our sister in Mahmoudiya."

The U.S. military has charged four soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division -- Spc. James Barker, Sgt. Paul Cortez, Pfc. Jesse Spielman and Pfc. Bryan Howard -- in the March 12 alleged rape and murder of 14-year-old Abeer Qassim Janabi in Mahmoudiya, about 20 miles south of Baghdad. Sgt. Anthony Yribe is accused of failing to report the attack but is not alleged to have been a direct participant.

A fifth suspect, Pfc. Steven Green, was discharged from the army because of a "personality disorder" before the allegations became known. He has pleaded not guilty to rape and murder charges and is being held in a civilian court in the United States.(clip)
