Iran displays homemade laser defense warning system

Iran on Saturday displayed a homemade laser defense warning system which it said would enhance Iran's defensive capabilities in "asymmetric battles," the Fars News Agency reported.

The system, which was produced by the Defense Ministry's Malik- e Ashtar Industrial University, would empower Iranian military forces to "jam and divert various types of laser-guided missiles, bombs, rockets or shells," Fars said.

Fars termed the system as "another of Iran's first time productions in the military sector."

In a ceremony to celebrate the system's completion, Defense Minister Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said that the system enhanced defensive capabilities of the armed forces, particularly in asymmetric battles.

1. remember all the crap about
laser pointers disrupting commercial pilots, why not get some real lasers and fry the eyes out of pilots trying to bomb your ass?

when I worked on the flight line launching fighter bombers we had no protection against that for our pilots, I wonder if the pentagon has addressed this?

4. I heard a story once...

...about bored US troops on the DMZ amusing themselves by zapping North Korean farmers with their artillery range-finders. Supposedly, the blindness only lasted a minute or so, but that's a lifetime at 600mph.

Edit: and no, I don't think it's funny or cool.
