Egypt bans French, German papers for comments on Islam

Egypt has banned editions of two French and German newspapers, Le Figaro and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, because of articles deemed insulting to Islam, the state news agency MENA said on Sunday.

Under a decree issued by Information Minister Anas el-Feki, the two editions will not be able to enter the country, it said.

"They published articles which disparaged Islam and claimed that the Islamic religion was spread by the sword and that the Prophet ... was the prophet of evil," it added.

The edition of Le Figaro, dated September 19, contains an opinion piece on Islam and the Prophet Mohammad by French philosopher and high school teacher Robert Redeker.

islam is not a person. it cannot be insulted. any more than a corporation can be insulted. oops, wait, in the US the coporations are a person with all the rights of an indidual. never mind :-)

2. I hope people get a clue...

and call criminals for what they are.

Criminals are criminals and their faith matters not.

Witness the peaceful xtian clinic bombers we have right here in our own backyard. And let's not forget the Oklahoma bombing.

Even if the world united in peace and dialogue, these criminals would jump another bandwagon aginst something/someone else.

Human nature transcends all else. The majority understands that peaceful societies are built around some rule of law and code of conduct.

Terrorism is a criminal matter and should treated as such without all these divisive insults upon people's faiths. Islam has become a political football lately and the media is promoting bigotry.

Call criminals for what they are and stop insulting people who have chosen to follow a different interpretation of the Koran.

For the record: I'm an athiest.

3. Why do people who follow Ideologies.....

...Think that its exempt from ridecule and criticism?? Fundamentlist seem to think that their ideology should be approached with kids gloves and that is total bullshit, I will not give special treatment to ANY ideology. People who follow these superstitions should be stonger in their 'faith' and not let those who see their 'faith' differently get to them so easily.

To me, those who do get up tight or mad because someone said this or that about their 'faith' are just weak people. They get upset because in the back of their mind they have doubts about the 'faith' they are servants too. Islam extremism is not different then Xtian extremism; both are fundamentally fraud and used to control people in a negative and unproductive way, it only benefits a certain few and they are cowards and menences to socity. Religion is cultural poison and a hinderence to progress.

I am so ill with these people who cry everytime someone critizes their 'faith'; if they are so damn devoted then little comments addressing the religion should not be a concern.
