Biden says he's going to run

http://media.www.dailyiowan.com/media/storage/paper599/news/2006/09/25/Metro/Biden.Says.Hes.Going.To.Run-2305206.shtml?sourcedomain=www.dailyiowan.com&MIIHost=media.collegepublisher.com

Biden says he's going to run

Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., bucked a trend by announcing his intention to run for president over the weekend - distinguishing himself from other visiting hopefuls who have dodged the question on their respective visits to Iowa.

Biden swept through eastern Iowa on Sept. 23, stumping and raising money for Democratic congressional hopeful Dave Loebsack during a two-day tour of the state.

"I'm coming back next year to do something else," Biden said near the end of his speech in Cedar Rapids, referring to next fall's run-up to Iowa's January 2008 caucuses, which signal the official start of the presidential election cycle.

Delaware's senior senator touched on health care, the minimum wage, the balance of power in Congress, and the overall direction of the country to the crowd of roughly 40 Democratic supporters.

That is, if anyone cares to do a poll about him running..

I don't see him as a strong viable candidate. imo, of course.

67. Appeasing the Administration and the Republican-dominated Congress
All the man could say about the war (after it had been going on for over a year) was that it was basically water under the bridge and that we should just concentrate on finishing what we started - of course he gave NO suggestions on how to go about that. He also appeased the Republican-controlled Congress and the credit card companies by voting for that disgusting credit bill. Any of this ring a bell?

43. I don't like anyone
who has their noses so far up corporate america's backsides as to promote and vote for a bill that targets those less fortunate! i.e. Bankruptcy Bill which mainly hurts those that are devastated by divorce, job loss or health. AND, the damned thing, does not even cut our soldiers any slack! Military family's bankruptcies (as are many others) are at a record high!

No way, Biden can kiss my happy backside! Freakin' bloviating blowhard.

JMVHO.

Apparently Joe doesn't!

Profile: PLTC-1987-JRB

Name: Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

War on Plagiarism Threat Level: Red: Severe Risk

Occupation: Politician, US Senator (Delaware)

Allegations: Repeated instances of plagiarism since the stressless scholarship of his college days

Results: Circulation of attack video by Dukakis campaign torpedoed his presidential aspirations in 1987

Known for: Glib oratorical skills and speechmaking

Overview: Joe Biden's history of plagiarism and stressless scholarship gave plenty of ammo to his enemies, one of them choosing to circulate a so-called attack video to demonstrate Biden's outright plagiarism of a British politician's speech. But this appropriation from Neal Kinnock was not the first occurrence of unacknowledged lifting by the senator from Delaware.

In 1965 Biden plagiarized while writing a paper as a student at the Syracuse University Law School in a legal methods course which he failed because of that copied paper. Such stressless scholarship as it is euphemistically called has become all too common in the modern Internet era with countless cheatsites and research services; offering to sell students papers on topics from A to Z.

Biden's case demonstrates that student plagiarism is nothing new. Only the methods of cheating have changed. Today, cheating has gone digital with the proliferation of Internet based paper filing and distributions systems, but the principles or lack thereof are the same. And as the Biden case illustrates, getting caught for such academic dishonesty may have serious ramifications for one's political career. Joe Biden's failed bid for the Democratic ticket is a case in point.

Stressless scholarship may seem like a pretty good idea at the time that many students make that decision to crib, copy, or dowload a paper off the Internet, but in Biden's case the plagiarism of his student days came back to haunt his bid for the democratic presidential nomination like a spectre from his past.

20. Intelligence and charm. Where?
The guy was a stupid mean spiteful mysoginistic bastard during the Clarence Thomas hearings. The son of a bitch showed what a horrid excuse of an anything he is.

Now that he's the corporate butt boy for the credit card companies, he's proved that he's still the slimey cretin he was back then. This leopard can't change his spots.

He hasn't got the proverbial snowball's chance in hell.

What a tool. Even though his voting record is not horrible, I think I dislike him more than any other Dem Senator on the basis of personality. Maybe even on par with Leiberman. Every time Biden opens his mouth it just seems way more obviously calculating and designed to get him press and attention than it does for most other people. I am not naive and realize this is the case with most politicians but with Biden I just think he's so shitty at hiding it. And it's made worse because he so desparately wants to be seen as some type of straight talking maverick type of McCain figure.

No thanks, Joe.

tired of lily-livered, corporate-minded "Democrats" who,

52. Why do people say he's a corporate tool?
There are a number of key policies which our corporations badly need:

*Single-payer universal health-care. American corporations have a hard time competing because they are asked to pickup the tab for healthcare expenses for their employees. This is having devastating effects in a number of key sectors, in particular the auto industry.

*An end to the Iraqi occupation. The war-mongering may help a few isolated companies like Halliburton, but for the vast majority of corporations the drainage of hundreds of billions of dollars from our economy only does harm. (Not to mention the artificial boost in energy prices to which it's been contributing.)

*Economic policies that support sustainable growth. There's been an increasing concentration of wealth in the United States, with the small number of haves and have-mores reaping gains while the vast majority are hurting. Since economic activity is ultimately driven by the sales of goods and services to consumers, it will be very hard for corporations to maintain strong earnings growth if most people don't have money to purchase these goods and services. Hence in the long-run corporations will benefit from policies which promote economic sustainability: a more progressive income tax, pro-labor laws, laxer standards for personal bankruptcy, etc.

To my knowledge, Biden's positions on such issues are woefully lacking.

56. Biden?
Yeah. Whatever.

That guy is the equivalent of a used car salesman. Lots of promise, short on delivery.

66. Wouldn't be my first choice
That bankruptcy bill vote was inexcusable IMO. That said, I would vote for him. Our party is the party with a chance to remove the Repukes from power. The Greens have no momentum, plus it would take a while to get it big. The Repukes need to be out NOW. Plus, SOME Greens have sold themselves to the dark side.

My preferred candidates are Kucinich, Boxer, Gore, or Feingold. Edwards also has a good populist heart - he's just slightly below the rest.
