Rumsfeld: 'I'm not' going to resign

As a few retired generals were telling Democratic lawmakers that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has bungled the war in Iraq, the secretary himself was asked by a reporter if he was going to offer his resignation to President Bush.

"I'm not," Rumsfeld responded to that question, which he's heard before.

As USA TODAY's Susan Page wrote this morning, the controversial Rumsfeld will become the longest-serving Defense secretary in history this December if he's still at the Pentagon.
