Bush to declassify parts of key intel report
President denies Iraq war has worsened terrorism
BREAKING NEWS
MSNBC News Services

Updated: 10:13 a.m. MT Sept 26, 2006

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Tuesday announced that he will declassify parts of the National Intelligence Estimate, which reportedly concluded that the war with Iraq has worsened terrorism.

“Some people have guessed what’s in the report and concluded that going in to Iraq was a mistake. I strongly disagree,” Bush said, referring to a New York Times report over the weekend that described what it said were conclusions from the classified analysis made last April.

The key judgments from the analysis will be released “as quickly as possible,” he added.

The announcement came at a press conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai after the two met for private talks at the White House.

Bush asserted that portions of the classified report that had been leaked were done so for political purposes, referring to the Nov. 7 midterm elections.

(snip)

Using a portion of the report to attack his Iraq policy and suggest it has fanned more terrorism is “naive,” Bush said.

He leaks part of the NIE and then after the media focuses on it he declassifies the NIE which makes it look like the leakers and the media distorted the report.

Yeah, I figgered.

It'll probably be the part on how many "terrorists" we killed in Iraq.

Notice though how the Repugs are not demanding to know who leaked the report? I find that interesting. I'm not saying the Repugs did it, far from it. But it's interesting that there's no call for the leaker's blood as the Repugs have often done in the past.

18. If the Frat Boy is going to declassify it, he should decalssify all of it
Bush is untrustworthy. From his past behavior, we have good reason to think that any declassification will be on political grounds; he'll decalssify what he wants us to know and keep classified anything that either embarrasses him or undermines a case for war against Iran.

If that's what he's going to do, I would prefer that he just keep the whole damned thing in the dark.

Bush counterattacks on Iraq-terrorism link

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush charged that it was "naive" and "a mistake" to think that the Iraq war fueled global terrorism, rejecting the reported conclusions of US spy agencies.
"My judgment is, if we weren't in Iraq, they'd find some other excuse," he said during a joint public appearance with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai after talks at the White House.

snip>

"Once again there's a leak out of our government, coming right down the stretch in this campaign in order to create confusion in the minds of the American people," he fumed, referring to November legislative elections.

snip>

"It will stop all the speculation, all the politics about somebody saying something about Iraq; you know, somebody trying to confuse the American people about the nature of this enemy," said the president.

Bush confirmed that the NIE was finished last April and told reporters that the evidence-gathering process had ended in late February and said the timing of the news reports showed the leak was linked to the election.

"Isn't that interesting? Somebody's taken it upon themselves to leak classified information for political purposes," said the US president.

35. State of terror document declassified.
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 04:58 PM by AIJ Alom
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/09/26/nie.iraq/index.html

The key conclusions of a document assessing the state of global terrorism was declassified Tuesday. One assessment is the war in Iraq is shaping a new generation of terror leaders. Bush suggested parts of the report were originally leaked for political purposes, and that media accounts of the leak were meant to confuse Americans.

"It will stop all the speculation, all the politics about somebody saying something about Iraq; you know, somebody trying to confuse the American people about the nature of this enemy," Bush said.

"The best way to protect America is to defeat these killers overseas so we do not have to face them here at home," Bush said. "We're not going to let lies and propaganda by the enemy dictate how we win this war."

Confusing the American people with the truth harms the very essence of the President's lies. Protest and you become an enemy of the state.

It was only 3 pages of a 30 page report so whatever, I saw on CNN somebody leaked the three pages on a blog yesterday so thats probably why they released them anyways.
