Reuters: China warns Taiwan on perceived independence move
China warns Taiwan on perceived independence move

BEIJING (Reuters) - China blasted Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian
on Wednesday for a plan to change the constitution, a move Beijing
would consider a formal declaration of independence of a self-ruled
island it claims as its own.

Chen's ruling Democratic Progressive Party is studying constitutional
changes to name the island the "Republic of Taiwan" and redefine its
national territory. Party members may introduce legislation in next
month.

"We will never tolerate their seeking de jure independence by amending
the constitution," Li Weiyi, spokesman for China's policy-making Taiwan
Affairs Office, told a regular news conference.

"We will closely watch and be on high alert to new developments," he
added.

1. I unequivocally support official independence for Taiwan.

And if our government was looking out for America, it will also (Note: we are obligated to defend Tawiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act).

Taiwan is already, and has been for decades, independent of China. The only things left to do is to make it official and for China to quit their warmongering towards Taiwan.

2. if it were just so simple
China doesn't seem to ever learn that everytime they open their yap they make things worse by reminding everyone why they hate authoritarian communism.

Happy birthday Confucius!
