Reuters: House clears $70 billion mostly for Iraq war
House clears $70 billion mostly for Iraq war

Reuters
Tuesday, September 26, 2006; 11:00 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday
gave final approval to a massive funding bill for the Pentagon that
provides another $70 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Senate was expected to pass the final version of the $447.6 billion
bill by this weekend, sending it to President George W. Bush for his
signature.

-snip-

With this bill, Congress will have approved more than $500 billion for
the wars, with the bulk of that spent in Iraq. Lawmakers called the $70
billion a "bridge fund" to last about halfway through the next fiscal year,
which starts on October 1.

3. The better question is where is all the money going to go
since half the money previously allocated to Iraq has disappeared.

Gone, poof. No records, no nothing.

8. Half a trillion to date plus half a trillion for next year alone
equals an incredibly massive One Trillion Dollars (all of it loaned to us) spent in a third world country without any real sign of success, victory, or ending.

Bush puts real meaning in the word wastrel.

10. Lisping, slurping, sloshing Karl Cassel added to his report on this
the non-sequiter: "Generally, the Democrats supported the bill without complaint."

As if their recent attempts to stop the fucking war and bring troops home is somehow not sincere. But that is to be expected from NPR (Neocon Public Relations).

<P> The table compares the cost of America's principal
wars since 1775 on the
basis of then current and 1990s dollars. Current dollars are
the actual numbers
spent at the time. Thus, a 1775-1783 dollar had the
equivalent purchasing power
of $10.75 in 1990s terms. Actually this conversion is only a
very rough guide,
but at least gives some idea of the relative costs of the
ten wars on an adjusted
basis. However, it is not possible to take into account
drastic changes in social
structure (most Americans were farmers in 1775, and didn't
use much money),
and the increasing affluence of American society over the
two centuries covered
  by the table.

16. 70 billion dollars...how about....
Just imagine...$1 billion per state. That's $50 billion. That leaves $20 billion to the feds.

Imagine what the states could do with an extra $1 billion each.

This isn't just a one time thing, either. Look how many times we're sending BILLIONS into the Iraq hole.

Just imagine what this country could do with the kind of financial investments we're putting into Iraq if we put that into healthcare, schools, shelters, police forces, infrastructures, energy, etc.
