Cheney Boat Protesters Head to Trial Oct. 12 (Kathlyn Stone)
(This is DUs Katinmin)

by Kathlyn Stone -- World News Trust

A jury trial has been scheduled for Minnesotans Bob Heberle, 71, St. Anthony, and Roger Cuthbertson, 67, of Shoreview, for their actions during a protest of a June 26 Republican fundraising party headlined by Vice President Dick Cheney.

Cheney spoke at the private fundraiser for Michele Bachmann, a state senator and candidate for the 6th District Congressional seat. The party was hosted by Karen and William Hawks at their Lake Minnetonka mansion which is outside of the 6th District.

Heberle and Cuthbertson are charged with creating a public nuisance on a watercraft, which carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. Part of a 10-member group of boat protestors, the two launched rafts from their pontoon boat and tried to paddle to the shore of Lake Minnetonka to speak to Cheney and voice their opposition to the war on Iraq and other U.S. foreign policies. The men were intercepted by a sheriff's boat, turned over to Secret Service agents, handcuffed, questioned, then transported to the county jail in Mound. At the jail, they were fingerprinted, questioned, held for about two hours, cited and then released.

3. Nice Piece Kat- Cheney showed up for a $raiser in Maine last week
Apparently the Republican hosts on mansion on the
water in Maine remained 'anonymous' for a Cheney
money making event.

Some editorialist noted that if anyone of VP stature
used to come to Maine, people would shout if from the
roof-tops. They would want everyone to know, and folks
would know for a good 200 mile radius.

Not anymore.

4. This is a little different
"Part of a 10-member group of boat protestors, the two launched rafts from their pontoon boat and tried to paddle to the shore of Lake Minnetonka to speak to Cheney and voice their opposition to the war on Iraq and other U.S. foreign policies."

It is one thing to protest, it is another thing to paddle to a location of the VP and try to talk to him. I can't blame the Secret Service for getting into it if they were planning to walk up to Cheney. As much as I despise this guy you can't just have access. Who knows if they a weilding an arsenal or something.

5. Very true. I don't think they expected to get anywhere near Cheney
They just made sure he knew they were there.

Bushncheney wouldn't have so many people protesting if they'd be accessible to people but they resort to the secret, screened, invited guests (rich ones) only events. They do not want to be taken to account. The more they block out citizens' voices, the more they will demand to be heard.
