War Protesters Arrested at House Office
WASHINGTON (AP) - Several dozen demonstrators protesting the Iraq war marched Wednesday to the Capitol carrying mock coffins and lay down in front of doorways at a House office building, where some were arrested.

Many covered themselves with sheets designed to make them resemble dead bodies.

"I had to bring my body down here to say no," Paki Wieland, 63, of Northampton, Mass., said as she waited in line to get on a police bus.

The protest was organized by the Declaration of Peace, a coalition of about 500 groups that has organized Iraq war protests around the country since Sept. 21, to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Candlelight peace vigil tonight at Hastert's office

BATAVIA -- A candlelight peace vigil is planned for 7 p.m. today at House Speaker Dennis Hastert's office at 27 N. River St. here.

Part of the Declaration of Peace Week of Action nationwide, the Batavia vigil will include names, ranks, ages and photographs of all 166 Illinois soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event also will feature a display of shoes, meant to represent all civilians and soldiers killed in the Iraq war.

The demonstration is being co-sponsored by the DeKalb Interfaith Network for Peace and Justice, the Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice, Pax Christi DuPage and West Suburban Faith-Based Peace Coalition.

For more information, visit www.declarationofpeace.org or call (815) 793-0950.

3. Maybe Nixon bought CBS after all.
He wanted the Pugs to buy one of the TV networks back around 1969, to "get our story out." Poor baby was simply bedeviled, as was LBJ, by those nasty old evening news programs having the nerve to show people out in the streets who were pissed off at Viet Nam I.

Flash forward thirty-odd years (some odder than others) and Perky Katie Couric sits in the same chair that Walter Cronkite occupied when he told us the FIRST Viet Nam had become unwinnable. Certainly no protestors on the thoughtscreens now--just missing blondes and flaming puppies. "Navy SEALs rock!"

What's the word I'm looking for? Oh, yeah. GELDED.

2. So many are against the war
Both here and abroad, but it's not like the Bush administration to let public opinion sway their decisions. They're going to force "democracy" on Iraq if it takes every bomb and bullet that can be made, costs every Iraqi life (as well as countless American lives), and bankrupts America.

Because Bush is the War President. :eyes:

4. Is it true?
Had a discussion yesterday with someone who said the Methodist Church (Dim Son's Congregation) is encouraging members to do nonviolent protests against the war. This would make for a very interesting sermon on Sunday for Chimp Boy. Then I thought does he even go to church any more? ANy thoughts?
