Judge Urged Not to Release Intel Reports

Federal prosecutors went into a private hearing Wednesday to urge a judge not to release sensitive intelligence reports at the upcoming trial of a former White House aide.
Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, wants to use President Bush's daily terrorism briefings as evidence at his obstruction and perjury trial in January.
Libby says the records from 2003 and early 2004 will show he did not lie to investigators about his role in the leak of a CIA officer's identity. He contends he had important things on his mind and may have forgotten details about the leak.
Prosecutors and defense lawyers will not discuss the contents of the classified briefing summaries. But the dates overlap with the military's hunt for Iraq's Saddam Hussein, the death of his two sons, and continuing discussions about nuclear programs in North Korea and Iran.
