6. Does Ailes have ANY credibility?
I mean, truly, does the man have any credibility at all outside of his own little bubble of the universe? I mean, this is the man who has Fox News blatantly and openly campaigning for Repukes. Who would believe him on anything that could even be spun as a partisan issue?

I saw thie interview (I've actually seen it several times on multiple different outlets - it's pretty amazing what a little creative editing can do...), and I really don't see what the furore is all about. WJC answered him smoothly and comprehensively. Admittedly he slammed Chris Wallace (without any bulging neck veins or red face, I might add), but the way the question was phased pretty much demanded that response.

77. Exactly.
President Clinton responded vigorously to the question and the insinuation of the question as anyone would have been expected to do.

I guess it hurt Ailes' feelings when Clinton rightfully pointed out the fact that Faux "journalists" never asks members of the criminal Bush administration the same type of questions?

7. What a muthafucka!
First off, calling anyone who works at Faux a journalist is really pushing it. Secondly, this current administration is threatening to charge journalists who report leaked information with treason - what's a greater assault on journalists than trying to prevent them from reporting the truth?!? What a complete and total jackass Alles is!

9. Ailes is a couple of days behind the GOP message.
The talking point now is that Clinton knew what he was doing all along, planned the whole episode as part of a plot to get Hillary elected and himself back in control of the party, and Clinton's anger was all just an act.

Pay attention Roger!

14. So let me get this straight........
Mr. Bush can get snippy with foreign reporters (remember the one asking questions in French?), he can insensitively make remarks about another one wearing sunglasses, who happened to have an medical condition for example, but when Mr. Clinton dare respond to the inflammatory statements clothed as hard hitting journalist questions, it's an assault?
Makes me wonder if Mr. Ailes would know the difference between a punch in the nose and someone just talking about one............

From ABC 7 News:
Fox Chief: Clinton Response an 'Assault'

Location: NEW YORK
Posted: September 27, 2006 6:58 PM EST

NEW YORK (AP) - Fox News chief Roger Ailes says former President Clinton's response to Chris Wallace's question about going after Osama bin Laden represents "an assault on all journalists." Ailes said Clinton had a "wild overreaction" in the interview, broadcast on "Fox News Sunday." Hundreds of thousands of people subsequently watched clips over the Internet, with Fox foes rallying behind Clinton.

"If you can't sit there and answer a question from a professional, mild-mannered, respectful reporter like Chris Wallace, then the hatred for journalists is showing," Ailes said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday. "All journalists need to raise their eyebrows and say, 'hold on a second.'"

(snip)

"They're out there saying (Wallace) was savage, he sandbagged (Clinton), he was taking orders on the question," Ailes said. "Chris Wallace has never taken orders on questions in his life. There's never been a discussion of that. I frankly think the assault on Chris Wallace is an assault on all journalists."

Barbara Cochran, president of the Radio and Television New Directors Association, said she worked with Wallace at NBC's "Meet the Press," where she was once executive producer. Wallace, who left ABC News to become "Fox News Sunday" host in 2003, was always a professional who asked tough questions and was not partisan, she said.

But Cochran said she would not comment on the larger question of what this meant for all journalists.

(snipity, snip, snip)

Assaults on Iraq, Iran, and the character of anyone who doesn't bow to corporate power.

What Chris Wallace faced is called a rebuke, and it seems to have come decades too late to be character-building.

Why is the rest of the MSM so SHY about calling a spade a spade? Fox News, headed by GOP hitman Roger Ailes, is the primary propaganda arm of the Bush Administration and the GOP. The entire network promotes the GOP and assorted right wing talking points 24/7.

EVERYBODY in journalism and Washington KNOWS this. The Fox staff know this, the competition knows this, every politician knows this, (a minority of) the American public knows this, even Howie Kurtz knows this... but it's never talked about (sssshhh) on the air. I guess that's what President Clinton did wrong...gasp... said it OUT LOUD.

61. A "wild overreaction" perfectly describes Roger Ailes' reaction to former
President Clinton's response to Chris Wallace's sandbagging of him during the course of that interview. The right-wing has been after Bill Clinton since the 1992 campaign. I'd say he's done an excellent job of keeping his temper in check for fourteen years.

"An assault to all journalists"? Ailes assembles a wholesome-looking group of individuals, predominantly Caucasian, puts them in front of a television camera, and has them spew disinformation twenty-four hours a day. That's not "journalism" - and they aren't "journalists". They're propagandists. Big difference. In fact, they give bona fide journalists who have paid their dues (and put their lives on the line getting the news) a black eye.

Roger Ailes' faux incredulousness is absolutely ridiculous. He knew damned well that the intention all along was to box former President Clinton into a corner with loaded questions. Chris Wallace got exactly what he bargained for, and if he felt that "a mountain was falling on him", then Wallace is one incredibly dim-witted character.

The only people who watch Fox News are those who are still in mourning over the demise of National Empowerment Television. Maybe if they actually diversified their sources of information, and got their news from several different sources that don't share their worldview, they just might become more enlightened human beings.

64. Ailes should learn what journalism really is
before making such pronouncements. What a joke, as is that impostor hack Chris Wallace.

67. If this is what it takes
to get the Democratic side to an issue presented on Fox, I hope we hear more of these "assaults". Mr. Ailes, are you upset that someone was prepared to address for your employee's ambush?

...the porch. So what should Clinton do? Sit there and take it? I think every Democrat
in office right now should use that interview as their debate coach.

74. WTF is Jabba talking about?
Assault on journalism in this country? Why would you assault a dead corpse? Journalism is dead and buried by POS conglomerates like you and your ilk riding on the raygun deregulation band wagon. This is another example of how fucked we are.

73. Clinton couldn't have laid out
a better explanation as to why it was a biased structuring and it's clear from the reaction of the public that a large majority sided with Clinton.

Ailes and Fox got Punk'd.

Listen up, GOP abusers! We are not your bitches!

We will not stand by catatonic, while you spew lies and disinformation.

We will fight back!!! We are not your victims!

Speaking out against lies is HEALTHY and essential.

We will not cower in the corner or apologize for standing up
to YOU!!

This is not a Lifetime For Television movie--with you as the trailer-trash
abuser and the Dems as the victims--submissive and apologetic.

Those days are OVER!! We WILL speak the truth and you will shut
your yappers and DEAL WITH IT!

So STFU and take it!!! Got it?????

deserve to be verbally assaulted.

He tried to "get" Clinton, and Clinton turned the tables on him.

85. Shows what a bunch of wimps the Foxies really are
How many "assaults" have we witnessed their "reporters" give to Americans over the years with many times the shrillness and vitriol that we saw Clinton give Wallace. The minute anybody starts to defend themselves against these jerks they start whining and threatening. Let us not forget Bill O'Liely trying to sue Al Franken a few years back. Same type of pattern here.

Ye gods. An assult? I'll give you an assult, you creepy scumbag dumbass.

You at Fox are the bottom-dwellers of media (and that's saying a LOT). You are liars, thugs, and reek of dishonesty and yellow journalism. You delight in the dirt, the sleeze, the snide comments.

Personally, I think Big Dog was actually holding BACK, so as not to scare poor cowardly Chris Wallace into vomiting on his good suit.

...and maybe a real assault, too.

Talk about overreacting. :eyes:

I guess nobody ever told him he might have to put up with some of the same shit he shovels out.
