Venezuela on Wednesday officially accepted the U.S. apologies for detaining Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro at the John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
"This is a page that has been turned over," Maduro told Venezuela Television. "Our role now is to keep working with optimism and without rancor, because Venezuelans are not rancorous," he said.
The minister added that he would return to New York to meet with regional groups on Thursday and Friday.
Maduro was detained and harassed for 90 minutes by security staff at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport on Saturday, even though he arrived at the airport on time for his flight, and clearly identified himself as a diplomat. Venezuela presented the United States with an official complaint and Washington swiftly apologized.
Maduro said he had met with U.S. Ambassador William Brownfield to discuss the incident, which the foreign minister described as "respectful".
