Violence returns to 'secure' Baghdad neighborhoods
Violence returns to 'secure' Baghdad neighborhoods
by Paul Schemm

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq threatened fiercer attacks as US military intelligence warned that militias are reoccupying previously cleared neighborhoods while local police turn a blind eye.

Meanwhile, insurgents murdered at least 21 Iraqis in bomb attacks and shootings around a country in the grip of a fierce sectarian conflict.

A minibus packed with explosives drove into an army post in the largely Shiite Shaab neighborhood of Baghdad, killing two Iraqi soldiers in an area near where US forces had recently conducted a comprehensive security sweep.

Meanwhile, a double bomb attack in the city centre killed seven people and wounded 35 more, hospital medics said, while a car bomb near a police criminal investigation department killed one officer and wounded four civilians.

5. This is a dumb campaign. The poor military
There is no way an uprising such as the one in Iraq today can be defeated militarily. But stay the course in Iraq is the order of the day.
