2. "It is ceding the president's argument that Congress doesn't matter
(snip)

"The Democrats' irrational opposition to strong national security policies that help keep our nation secure should be of great concern to the American people," Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said in a statement after the bill passed 232-191.

"To always have reasons why you just can't vote 'yes,' I think speaks volumes when it comes to which party is better able and more willing to take on the terrorists and defeat them," Boehner said.

Democrats shot back that the war on terrorism shouldn't be fought at the expense of civil and human rights. The bill approved by the House, they argued, gives the president too much power and leaves the law vulnerable to being overturned by a court.

"It is ceding the president's argument that Congress doesn't matter in this area," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md.

3. Guess what, Congressional Dems
You haven't mattered one whit since you ceded your right to challenge the presidential election results in January 2001.

9. Why Worry? The Battlin' Congressional Dems Have Our Back!
They'll use every tool at their disposal to ensure that Americans retain their basic civil liberties, and that America will live up to its obligations of providing basic human rights to combatants.*

*Unless there's a buck in it to do otherwise, or it involves taking an actual stand on something. Hey, who the hell else you gonna vote for?

10. Is it okay on DU now to call Hastert a douchebag?
Not sure what's acceptable anymore... but there just simply is no other word for it: <<"Democrat Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and 159 of her Democrat colleagues voted today in favor of more rights for terrorists," Hastert said in a statement. "So the same terrorists who plan to harm innocent Americans and their freedom worldwide would be coddled, if we followed the Democrat plan. ">>

They're still there, passing bills. For all we know, tomorrow could officially be declared "Halliburton Day". They're on a roll now, this do-nothing Congress, passing every bill Bush asks for before the recess tomorrow.

17. I think we can safely say
Goodbye to the America we have known and loved hello to the New Facist State of America. I am nearly 60 years old and I never thought I would see the day where our beloved Constitution was nothing more than a dead piece of literature. I would never have believed that any of my Congressmen or Congresswomen, regardless of their politics, would pass legislature where people can be tortured or held without reason. I never dreamed that one day I would live in a country where my own government could listen in on my phone calls or read my mail without cause. I am far too old to begin anew, to just pack it in and relocate to another country but in my heart I have completely disowned America and I can no longer call myself an American without feeling shame. Do you hear that America? I disown you!!!!!!!!!

House passes warrantless domestic spying measure
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/28/AR2006092802052_pf.html
By Thomas Ferraro | Reuters
Thursday, September 28, 2006; 11:14 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday that would provide congressional authorization for President George W. Bush's warrantless domestic spying program but subject it to new rules.

With a court battle waging over the program's legality, the House, controlled by Bush's fellow Republicans, approved the measure on a largely party-line vote of 232-191, and sent it to the Senate for needed concurrence.

The Senate, however, has been unable to agree on such legislation, preventing Bush from getting a final measure to sign into law before members of Congress go home to campaign for the November 7 elections. That had been a top Republican goal.

With both parties bickering over who can best protect America, the bill outlines when and how a president can order warrantless surveillance. The president would be permitted to do so, for example, after an "armed attack," "terrorist attack" or when the president deems there is an "imminent threat."

32. See what they have here now?
They can haul you into court and say, "we have recordings of you saying terrorist type stuff", but we don't have to show you the evidence because of the anti-terror bill that suspended Habeus Corpus.

So in other words, we are living in the beginning times of either nazi germany or stalinistic russia. Take your pick.
