7 tortured bodies found in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Seven bodies bearing signs of torture were found in Baghdad on Friday, more apparent victims of the sectarian death squads that roam the capital.

The corpses of six men and one woman were all found in east Baghdad neighborhoods. They were blindfolded, and had their hands and legs bound, police said.

U.S. commanders said there has been a spike in sectarian violence in Iraq centered in the capital since the start of Ramadan, which Sunnis started observing on Saturday and Shiites on Monday.

1. I guess murder trumps fasting and introspection for a month.

Disgusting that Muslims would be slaying one another at any time of the year, much less at Ramadan. I never used to even let my Muslim coworkers see me take a sip of water or eat lunch at my desk when they are fasting....and I am an Episcopalian!

2. If it's only seven bodies, this may not quite be "newsworthy"

Consider the old man-bites-dog vs dog-bites-man standard for what is actually news worth covering. A little more blood on America's hands doesn't quite cross that threshhold until the body count is in double digits.
