Bush team searches for a big idea...Wash Post
http://www.msnbc.com/news/1001498.asp?vts=12520030630&cp1=1

Aides to President Bush are looking for unifying national
goals for the final year of his term.

President Bush’s aides are considering a new lunar
exploration program and other unifying national goals,
including a campaign to promote longevity or fight childhood
illness or hunger, as they sift ideas for a fresh agenda for
the final year of his term, administration officials said
yesterday.

2. What do we call this? Cynical Idealism?
They just don't get it. When Teddy Roosevelt tried to save the wilderness, did he ask himself now what "big idea" can I come with today? When John Kennedy set the goal of putting a man on the man, was he just trying to concoct a clever political gimmick? Or Roosevelt's New Deal? Or Wilson's League of Nations? Or Johnson's Great Society? Or even Reagan's New Morning? But to sit around trying to think up some great humanitarian cause just to get Bush elected is typical of the way this president tries to fraudulently hide his basic emptiness under a fake banner of grand ideas.

3. Bush Admin Fight Against Snow of Mass Destruction
The Bush Administration has announced a new policy banning Snow of Mass Destruction. According to administration officials, President* Bush feels that snow causes immense amounts of injury, death and destruction each year. As such, the economic impact of snow against insurers, citizens, heath care providers, and energy providers is high enough to warrant ending snow in the United States.

By ending snow, insurance companies will have fewer payouts due to property damage from accidents, and deaths from shoveling and accidents. Fewer injuries will cause fewer hospital visits, reducing the need for additional health care workers and alleviating the health care employee shortage. Energy providers are fighting the ban on snow since their profits will be mipacted due to lower energy needs, but citizens will be happy with lower energy bills, and will in turn spur the economy by spending the windfall.

The Bush Administration hopes to accomplish the ban of snow by raising global temperature with a one time payout of a HumVee to each US citizen

In a related story, the Bush administration is moving toward an outright ban on darkness in an effort to curb terrorism.

4. Someone clue in the Doofus: The Eagle has already landed.
This graf sums it up:

The development of big ideas for Bush’s 2004 agenda is being led by the president’s senior adviser, Karl Rove, the officials said. Administration officials said options have not been presented to the president, let alone decided, but the search is active for ambitious initiatives to flesh out a reelection agenda that also includes limiting lawsuits, making the tax cuts permanent and adding private investment accounts to the Social Security system.

If this is Bush's agenda, he's in real trouble here: More privileges to corporate cronies, tax cuts for the rich, and screw Social Security. That should go over big.

12. That and overpopulation...and if the wrong-wing religious extremists
have their way, every form of birth control other than abstinence and natural family planning are gonna bite the dust...
Does an average of 12-15 pregnancies for women without BC sound like a good thing?
Very important to fight the anti-abortion extremists to prevent this.

18. Dear pResident* Bush, You want a Big Idea?
I'll give you a Massively Brilliant Campaign Idea, that will unify and heal the nation for generations to come:

Open up the Bush family Skull & Bones Krypt of Hidden Secrets, and let out the family skeletons.

You know, about your grandpappy the Nazi financier; your Poppy and his dealing with Noriega and Iran-Contra and the CIA and his mistress and Carlyle; and Neil and Silverado and the Taiwanese young girls; and Jebbie and his mistresses and the stealing of the election 2000; and YOU and your failure to do even the barest minimum to defend the US on 9/11, and your lies about WMD, and your cover up and all the rest, ad nauseum/

It would be immensely cathartic for you, your family, and the nation.

So how about it? Open up the Bush Family Krypt and let some fresh air in. I do believe this ideas a winner.

26. Lunar Exploration will fail
since there is no oil on the moon.

What they really want is a brand new wedge issue that resonates with someone besides old white men. Ooooh, I know! How about industrial jobs?
Good paying jobs, Jobs with benefits, Jobs that have on the job training for the under-educated?

Its the jobs, stupid.

Or how about REAL national health care for all?
Or how about bringing welfare funding for the poor up to the level of welfare for the rich?

Suck on that for awhile, Karl.

It's the unravelling, stupid! Oh, that's right, you were helping it weren't you? Too bad, there is nothing new to energize your base, and you just pissed off the elderly. Smart move Pubs.

31. Bush team searches for a frickin' clue...
"This official said Bush’s closest aides are promoting big initiatives on the theory that they contribute to Bush’s image as a decisive leader even if people disagree with some of the specifics. “Iraq was big. AIDS is big,” the official said. “Big works. Big grabs attention.” "

Note that "Iraq was big". You mean they think the policy on Iraq worked? Or are they admitting he did it all for his image?

"The Department of Heath and Human Services is developing a proposal that would funnel billions of dollars over at least a decade into relatively noncontroversial research into cures for cancer and other diseases. A GOP official said this effort could be “the Republican equivalent of the War on Poverty.”"

I thought Nixon already declared a War on Cancer. Don't they even know what their own party did? Oh look, here's a government site:

http://training.seer.cancer.gov/module_cancer_disease/unit5_war_on_cancer.html
After more than three decades, the "War on Cancer," declared by President Nixon in 1971 with the enactment of the National Cancer Act, is still going on in this country. The Question is: "Are we winning the war?"

How about a message about something that has eluded your administration and is a sure fire way to unify this country. The media will portray it as a bold move, something that will be totally out of the blue.

It will ignite people like never before, and will span a new era in this country.
