Dean's Ad Campaign Is Set to Broadcast Beyond Iowa
Dean's Ad Campaign Is Set to Broadcast Beyond Iowa
By JODI WILGOREN and DIANE CARDWELL

Published: December 6, 2003

ERRY, Iowa, Dec. 5 — Still in a fierce fight for the all-important Iowa caucuses on Jan. 19, Howard Dean is starting an expensive television advertising campaign in states that have nominating contests in February. The spots begin on Monday in South Carolina and New Mexico.

Joe Trippi, who is managing Dr. Dean's run for the Democratic presidential nomination, said on Friday that the campaign would announce the advertisements on Monday in both states and that they would remain on the air until the ballots were cast in the two states on Feb. 3. Mr. Trippi said the campaign would follow suit within 10 days in Arizona and Oklahoma, which also vote on Feb. 3.

On Sunday afternoon, Mr. Trippi said, Dr. Dean's campaign plans to experiment with a new idea, a half-hour television program in Wisconsin in hopes of attracting volunteers. The campaign will also pump "a considerable commitment" of paid organizers next week in several states, the manager said.

"Make no mistake, we intend to win every one of these states," Mr. Trippi said on Friday in a conference call with reporters. He added that the campaign would spend "several million dollars" on the new commercials, but would not provide specifics or scripts.

5. Dean can easily have it all wrapped up by 2/3
knock out blow to Gephardt in IA, Kerry in NH, Lieberman and Clark in AZ and OK, Edwards in SC, The thing is is that Dean's grassroots pan-nation campaign can easily defeat his regionalist opponents.
