Cheney: Iraqi Government Doing 'Remarkably Well'
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 04:08 PM by brooklynite
NEW YORK Vice President Dick Cheney, as he is wont to do during difficult times for the administration, appeared on Rush Limbaugh's radio talk show today, where he declared that the current government in Iraq is "off to a good start" and "they're doing remarkably well." Americans are concerned, however, because the war, which began in March 2003, "wasn't over instantaneosly," he explained.

...snip...

CHENEY: Well, I think there’s some natural level of concern out there because in fact, you know, it wasn’t over instantaneously. It’s been a little over three years now since we went into Iraq, so I don’t think it’s surprising that people are concerned.

On the other hand, this government has only been in office about five months, five or six months now. They’re off to a good start. It is difficult, no question about it, but we’ve now got over 300,000 Iraqis trained and equipped as part of their security forces. They’ve had three national elections with higher turnout than we have here in the United States. If you look at the general overall situation, they’re doing remarkably well.

It’s still very, very difficult, very tough. Nobody should underestimate the extent to which we’re engaged there with this sort of, at present, the “major front” of the war on terror. That’s what Osama bin Laden says, and he’s right.

So, it's your fault, Mr. & Mrs. America. The Administration promised you a short war, and you believed them...

They are off to such a great start that they take long vacations now!
Sometimes they take time off to go to the funerals of their loved ones, since they are being murdered left and right. Also, the Christians are evacuating the country if they are smart. Yeah, things re going so well there that Cheney should go bird hunting there asap.

3. Wait -- doing remarkably well?
David Brooks didn't get the memo, then, because he suggests that maybe we should replace the entire government:

Matthews: David, do you believe the President is looking for an out from his doctrinaire policy of staying the course?

Brooks: Not really, no I don't. I think they're looking at policy options. One of those options is trying to replace the current government which seems to be doing nothing.

Which one is it? Because mixed messages like this just help the terrorists. :sarcasm:

9. What is more disgraceful is that it is unquestioned when reported
Cheney says we are making friends in Iraq. Corporate media reports it without question.

Cheney says Iraqi govt doing great. Corporate media reports it without question.

Just a few months ago Cheney was still talking about WMDs in Iraq and the connection between Iraq and the twin towers. Media writes it down and prints it as if his words were golden.

15. Maybe there's a future for Cheney there in govt.
Instead of ruling from afar, he could be right in the midst of the Sunni/Shiite love-in. I'm sure he would find it rewarding.
