Iraq attacks 'likely to increase'
A top US military commander in Iraq has said he expects more attacks as the US prepares to hand over power to Iraqis.

"We expect to see an increase in violence as we move toward sovereignty at the end of June," General Ricardo Sanchez told reporters on Sunday.

He added the hunt for Saddam Hussein was continuing, but that it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

1. I wish they would get Saddam
That might give them a morale boost for a few days. But then, when things didn't get better, he couldn't be an excuse for Bush's failures any longer. Besides, I shudder to think of what would happen to the Iraqi people if he came back to power.

2. His being out there is proof of Bush's failure,
in the same way Osama and Omar are. That so-called NBC exclusive last night in which a former Iraqi bigwig said that Sadaam had biological and chemical (crude) weapons to fight with (naturally he chose not to because of his humanitarian nature) and hid them is also a balloon I imagine. He goes on to say that he has been giving the Iraqis in exile info for years; he continued that the Iraqis would not tell where those weapons (that they hid after we attacked instead of using them against us) only after Sadaam is captured or killed. Yeh, right. Since even the generals are suddenly saying that finding Sadaam is like finding a needle in a haystack (cliche), the White House must think is a good time to make such claim. We have to remember that these people lie all the time. They even lied about the British Airways pilot for no reason that is discernible.

3. They really believe it too...
...I just heard a friend's husband got called up again. He is a surgeon who already served in Afghanistan. He is deploying in January as part of a FAST medical unit. I am assuming they are sending the entire 911th Medical again. According to them 3000 marines are being added as well.

Freaking lovely...

4. The truth will set you free
It's interesting to me that the administration occasionally throws out something that isn't a lie, but also isn't the truth. They want to cover their asses when shit hits the fan (i.e. Bush saying mission accomplished AND we're in for a long fight - can you say double speak?) while pushing the current marketing campaign.

I think it's obvious to anyone who doesn't watch Fox News that this is not a winnable situation. Anyone with half a working brain can see the problems ahead. The Iraqi resistance fighters are not 'hangers on' or 'terrorists' but in fact another nationalist movement. Those who are killing westerners and their collaborators are well accepted in Iraqi society. Only one in thousands need actually take any risks, and those numbers will always be available. They can easily out wait and out wit us, and there's no way to fight a suicide bomber, even with Stealth Fighter Jets, drones or hundreds of thousands of troops. This has already become another Intefada, and we have seen how successful Israel has been in dealing with that. The only way out is to leave... now. By staying in we will only delay the inevitable, at a terrible cost. Let's declare a national election, and deal with whomever the Iraqis vote into power. Otherwise it's obvious that we are not really interested in real democracy.

5. Welcome to DU, SquireJons
I agree with your assesment, especially about the admin strategy.

Although they will let elections of some sort happen, they will rig the process to prevent a radical Islamic state in Iraq, even if that is the public choice.

Can't have the creation of another Iran on your resume going into the next election, can we?

7. Warm Welcome
Frotunately for me, I have not been 'welcomed' to DU like our troops were 'welcomed' to Iraq. Thanks. I've been a reader here for about a year, but just started posting.

Also, I appologize for any profanity. I didn't read the rules (my bad). But I will say this: it's awfuly hard to discuss this administration without using sware words. I will self edit in the future...:hi:
