UN critical of US for killing Afghan children

The US military faces mounting criticism as it began to investigate the accidental killing of nine children in an air attack on an alleged terrorist in Afghanistan.

The United Nations has called for a swift inquiry and its results to be made public.

The children died along with an alleged terrorist in a coalition air attack in south-east Ghazni province, which has been troubled by attacks blamed on Taliban militants.

UN special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi said the protection of civilians is an "obligation" for any military organisation.

"This incident, which follows similar incidents, adds to a sense of insecurity and fear in the country," said UN spokesman Manoel de Almeida e Silva, reading a statement from the envoy.

1. Man, first they wanted a real reason

to go to war, now they don't want us to kill children.

2. The UN should be critical of US policy of targeting individuals with air

attacks. If the US is so "big and bad" when they are after one person they believe is in a building, the ground troops should go in and get him. This bombing from the air for a military super power is a coward's way to wage a war. The US and Israel are biggest cowardly nations on earth.
