Fox: I Wasn't Off Meds in Political Ads

Oct 26, 8:29 PM (ET)

By FRAZIER MOORE

NEW YORK (AP) - In a response to charges by conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, Michael J. Fox defended his appearance in recent political campaign ads, saying he was neither acting nor off his medication for Parkinson's disease.

On the contrary, he had been overmedicated, the actor said during an interview aired on Thursday's "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric."

"The irony of it is that I was too medicated," Fox told Couric, adding that his jumpy condition as he spoke to her reflected "a dearth of medication - not by design. I just take it, and it kicks in when it kicks in."

In this handout photo provided by CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, anchor and Managing Editor Katie Couric interviews Michael J. Fox about his ads for stem cell research, broadcast on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, in New York. In a response to charges by conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, Michael J. Fox defended his appearance in recent political campaign ads, saying he was neither acting nor off his medication for Parkinson's disease. "That's funny - the notion that you could calculate it for effect," he said. "Would that we could."

1. Thank you, Mr. Fox.
Mr. Limbaugh? Your pathetic disgusting lying self-serving attempt to deny and spin reply?

10. I want to know what his "Family Values" listeners
think of this?

I adore Michael J. Fox. It grieves me that this disease is taking its toll on him. For this pig Limbaugh to even insinuate that Michael would use a cheap ploy, (like repugs do) to make a political point is just sick. I just hope that ANYONE truly with decent values is as disgusted by this vulgar insinuation as the rest of us...

3. The medicine makes you jerk and twitch to keep your muscles from
tightening and not moving at all. There is another medication that you can take to supress some of the overwhelming twitching, but it makes you extremely lathargic. Depending on when he takes his medication, really depends on how defined his muscle spasms will be. Like I said in other posts, I had a great grandfather who suffered with this disease. He was worse in the morning when he first took his meds.. but got better throughout the day.. also he always moved his tongue around like he was chewing on something... made him mumble.

6. Read the article before posting
Couric announced that her father had Parkinson's and that she has contributed to Fox's foundation. I doubt she's best buddies with Rush.

Couric loves money.

On his Tuesday radio program Limbaugh said he was approached by Couric herself to contribute to a new segment of the network's nightly newscast called "Free Speech" in which a guest commentator will offer his or her opinion on a variety of topics and issues. Limbaugh said he agreed to do the segment - currently scheduled to air on Thursday night's broadcast - because he was assured his comments would air unfiltered and without debate.

CBS gave Limbaugh a platform to attack nameless "critics" who are "not interested in victory," offer his definition of "patriotism"

9. Fox was not off his meds,
but Lush is clearly off his. He was more entertaining and effective (for the pukes)when he was on his oxycontin.
