Cowboys coach rats out McDonald's over rodent in salad
DALLAS -- Dallas Cowboys passing game coordinator Todd Haley is suing a suburban McDonald's after claiming his wife and their family's au pair found a dead rat in their salad.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in state district court seeks $1.7 million in damages, The Dallas Morning News reported on its Web site.

In addition to Haley, who got in a well-publicized shouting match with Terrell Owens earlier this month, the suit was also filed on behalf of his wife, Christine, and the family's live-in babysitter, Kathryn Kelley.

2. Sounds like somebody at Mickey D's doesn't like the Cowboys
passing game. Then again Bledsoe is very statue-esque when it comes to the position and Terrell Owens is the leagues biggest primadonna.

16. See, it's headlines like that that make me loath the media
They are more interested in being cute, to the extent of worshipping bad puns, than they are in being accurate and informative. Guess it's the historian side of me that hates the inaccuracy.

4. Oh dear...this isn't going to be another finger in the chili, is it?
And yes Virginia, I know it was Wendy's that had the chili-finger lawsuit...

but a rat is a pretty big damn critter...wouldn't it be SEEN before the salad was handed over to the customer? :silly: :wtf:

9. Aren't the salads shipped pre-packaged?
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 09:11 PM by hedgehog
I would expect that the automatic machinery would have kicked this bowl off the line because it would have been way over-weight. Rats are heavier than lettuce.

13. Personally, I have my doubts.
It seems to me that every single case like this in the last decade or so has turned out to be fraud.

And even if the salads are pre-packaged, and a rat got in one, as someone else pointed out, a rat is pretty big, and I'd think that the McDonalds employee would have noticed that the salad was about twice as heavy as every other salad.

Wait and see how this plays out.

15. I guess he doesn't expect his current job to work out so well.
He's responsible for the Cowboy's passing game. Rumor was that he leaked a couple of stories to the press about TO, which has led to TO's public criticism of him, and much distraction with the team. Jerry Jones blamed him for the whole TO flap, too, and at first said he would discipline the coach for leaking the story.

So, he's helped coach the Cowboys to a 3 - 3 season, created dissent on the team, created a media frenzy for the team, helped develop the plays that got Bledsoe benched... That rat just might be his retirement plan.

17. I'm not buying this either
It's unlikely something like that would go unobserved by someone.

He better hope for his sake that it did happen because the Cowboys will drop him and no NFL will touch him.
I think something like that would violate several NFL personal conduct codes.

they are not very big, at least the ones i've seen aren't

As per WFAA (Dallas CBS affililate) news this morning, the rat was six inches long.

To me, the story's neither here not there-- but I thought I pass this additional info along.

25. There was a similar story here not long ago
A college student claimed to have helped himself to a salad at Ruby Tuesday's, then claimed to have discovered a mouse in it upon returning to his table. The restaurant did an intensive search of the premises and the supplier. There's no way this could have happened. However, it couldn't be proved that the kid did it himself, so no charges were filed.

26. Probably a mouse and not a rat...
unless of course they got the super-sized salad...

Anyone that has ever worked in a restaurant will know that those kinds of rats are as big as a loaf of bread. (not including the tail)

Unless (and don't read further if you have a weak stomach) it was half a rat...

28. Rat salad is nothing, try the strawberry tart
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 05:17 PM by daleo
"Woman - Well there's rat cake ... rat sorbet ... rat pudding ... or strawberry tart.
Man - Strawberry tart?!
Woman - Well, it's got some rat in it.
Man - How much?
Woman - Three (rather a lot really).
Man - ... well, I'll have a slice without so much rat in it."
