GOP turns its aim on Kucinich to rally faithful

Sabrina Eaton -Plain Dealer Bureau

Washington- For months, the Republican National Committee has sent supporters daily missives that predict dire consequences if Democrats triumph in next month's elections and liberals like California's Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Nevada's Sen. Harry Reid assume control of Congress.

On Thursday, Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich's possible ascent to chairmanship of a national security sub committee top ped their list of horrors, even though Kucinich has repeatedly said he doesn't know whether he would get the post. "Dems' Choice to Lead Key National Security Subcommittee Would Use 'Warm Glow of Peace' Against Terrorists," began the e-mail from the Republican National Committee's research arm.

<snip>

Kucinich spokesman Doug Gordon said his boss "does not need a lecture on protecting America from the group that led us into and keeps us in Iraq." "I never knew what an elephant sounded like when it was drowning, until now," he said.

2. Waxman , Kucinich are Bush's likely archiles heel.
Bush knows this trio can cause Dubya real sleepless nites. Visit Waxman's web site for a list of critical questions that our democracy needs answers in order to preserve our republic. Just in case, today I sent DK my emergency donation to help him out; against this unexpected Bush on slaught. That's why Bush/Rove is running so scared. They fear true congressional oversight over their corruption.

4. But the average joe GOPer doesn't know who Kucinich and Waxman are
How does using Kucinich as a boogyman help to scare GOPers to the polls? The average GOPer isn't paying that much attention.

I get the same feeling when they use Nancy Pelosi as a boogyman. The RNC keeps saying be scared of speaker Nancy Pelosi and the average GOPer says okay, but who is she?

8. I don't think it's intent is to gode Repukes to vote.
But, they are scared shi?l@ss of what truely effective committee chairs will reveal of their corruption. They are desperate to keep effective Democratic from prying into their own private money cash cow to Halliburton, etc. It's not so much Pelosi, but the investigative power of an empowered Waxman, Kucinich alliance.
Why Kucinich. They think they have a chance to beat him. The district is pretty Democratic? Chm . Kucinich/Waxman , what a nightmare for Dubya.

OK, we know who he is. Does Joe Sixpack know? And if he does, Rover will have to spend his time telling Joe Sixpack why he should be worried about a Congressman who represents a district in Cleveland, Ohio.

Maybe Rover should try making Mike Thompson the poster boy for all that is evil in the Democratic Party. He's my Congressman, and I guess he's just as good any any other Democrat. To Rover they're all alike. Except Lieberman.

31. Sure, I'd love to.
Kucinich seems to be the leader of the anti-Diebold movement, which accomplishes nothing but bringing pessimism to the electorate and stifles voter turnout.

Very few Democrats adhere to this nonsense about stolen elections (in 2004, the 2000 election was stolen) outside of DU.

He was always pro-life until he decided to run for president and came in last nearly everywhere.

On the other hand, I really appreciate his views about the war.

For the most part, Kucinich is a joke.

30. The "joke" outran a lot of Dems in the 2004 WI primary
including Wes Clark, Dick Gephardt, and others. DK is knowledgeable about a lot of things and he is unafraid of confrontation. On the issues, he's been a leading voice.

He was the youngest Mayor elected in Cleveland and stood up to powerful energy interests that would have harmed the City. He was politically "exiled" as a result and spent the time becoming an educator (much like Paul Wellstone) before reentering politics.

You may prefer the candidates that have the most special interest money spent on them or that look good-DK is a real progressive ethical Democrat in a Party undergoing a power struggle--DK certainly is not a joke or a DINO, he is a leader and a teacher that has earned respect among many.

38. Then you must have a very dim view of the Democratic Party
in general. DK's judgement and perception, on many issues of the greatest import, has proven to be far more accurate than the majority of Democratic legislators. Then again, maybe you really just don't know much about DK.

Notice the date on the essay below.

The Bloodstained Path
by Dennis Kucinich
The Progressive magazine, November 2002

Unilateral military action by the United States against Iraq is unjustified, unwarranted, and illegal. The Administration has failed to make the case that Iraq poses an imminent threat to the United States. There is no credible evidence linking Iraq to 9/11. There is no credible evidence linking Iraq to Al Qaeda. Nor is there any credible evidence that Iraq possesses deliverable weapons of mass destruction, or that it intends to deliver them against the United States.
snip---
America cannot and should not be the world's policeman. America cannot and should not try to pick the leaders of other nations. Nor should America and the American people be pressed into the service of international oil interests and arms dealers.
snip---
If the United States proceeds with a first strike policy, then we will have taken upon our nation a historic burden of committing a violation of international law, and we would then forfeit any moral high ground we could hope to hold.

14. All this boils down to: TURNOUT
The GOP is energizing its base....We need to do the same.

Polls mean NOTHING! They are tools and nothing more.
Do not assume victory is ours because of good polling.
Go to the bars this weekend, talk up the election. Get those comfortable people out of their zone and into the the election booth on Tuesday!

Wherever you are, do NOT be silent. Even if all you do is talk to a few people and confirm they are voting, then you have done something.

42. "It doesn't matter who it is as long as there's a 'D' after their name."
This mantra at DU used to justify supporting right-wing Democrats cuts both ways. If the GOP has half a brain they'll be beating the public over the head with this line for the next week and a half.

If a liberal is supposed to "look at the bigger picture" and support a right-wing Democrat because it will put liberals at the head of Congressional committees, then why are conservative going to be racing to the ballot box to grant these liberals power? If it turns out that red-staters don't have any problems with guys like Kucinich and Conyers holding powerful positions, then why the hell do we need our candidates in such places to support the war, torture, and bigotry?
