3rd District crossfire intensifies in the home stretch

BY PAUL HAMMEL

WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

LINCOLN - More charges flew Friday as the hotly contested 3rd District congressional race entered the final weekend.

Republican candidate Adrian Smith issued a press release questioning whether Democrat Scott Kleeb was being subsidized by Yale University while campaigning this year. Kleeb listed $12,842 in wages from the East Coast university this year.

Meanwhile, the Nebraska Democratic Party, citing a newspaper letter to the editor, accused Smith of ignoring a rule against campaigning near a polling place.

On the Yale wages, Kleeb campaign spokesman Ben Lumpkin acknowledged that a clerical error had led to the late filing of a financial disclosure statement.

My note: Kleeb has a small LEAD in two polls this week. With the statistical error margin, it is a dead heat. No Dem has won district three since 1958. W visits the district today.

1. Notice the red-flag reference to
the "East Coast" university (read elitist, 'librul', left-wing). Omaha's rag stays true to its reactionary right-wing base.

That being said, I say: GO KLEEB! IT'S HIGH TIME TO KICK SOME RIGHT-WING BUTT OUT THERE IN THE PANHANDLE! SG

2. Omaha's rag? There's not enough decent whole cloth in that piece
of shit to even qualify for being a rag.

3. From what I read on-line,
the Lincoln J & S seems surprisingly more 'librul' than the OWH (at least by NE standards, meaning 'moderate' by any other). Are you in the NE 3rd, acmavm? I used to be, many years ago, and wish (figuratively) that I was there now to cast a vote for KLEEB!!! SG

4. Nope, Nebraska's 2nd. We're dumping Lee Terry Jr. One of the
most worthless lumps of protoplasm that ever left a slime trail.

5. GO you Prairie Populists!
There is an underlying well-spring of no-nonsense populism in NE that needs to be tapped - NE DEMS SHALL RISE AGAIN! God speed on Tuesday. SG

6. The Omaha World Herald endorsed KLEEB!

It is the first time the OWH ever endorsed a Democrat in the third district.

7. We're here...Nebraska's 3rd District Lives on...Blue?
Not only are we voting for Scott Kleeb...so is everyone we know! AND we are taking our children to the polls with us so they see how important it is...

I read an article today about the possibility that all of Nebraska's representatives could be Democrat...how would THAT be for Nebraska's independent voice!

...I realize it's a dream...but dreams can come true!

:)

"W" will be here in Grand Island tomorrow...trying to scare everyone into thinking he is right...

:toast:

Here's to him failing once again!

8. The 50 State Strategy deserves some credit
Kleeb is a great candidate and deserves to be elected on his own merits, but the Dems have funded staffers to open offices in towns like Scottsbluff, Chadron, Alliance, McCook, North Platte - some places where there has never been any formal Democratic presence whatsoever before now.

The pundits keep talking up the Repugs' great ground game, but this time, in the 3rd District anyhow, they got caught with their panties down and now in twist.

In many of these towns there is no official Repub presence. Granted they often have a strong county chair/committee structure, but the Dems in these towns are on the phones and on the streets daily. And they're rounding up a slew of volunteers.

I hope the pundits take note of this strong structure. It concerns me that a flip in the vote contrary to what the polls are showing (ie a manipulated vote count) could be attributed to the "Republican's superior GOTV" when in reality, this year anyhow, the Dems are outmanning them big time in western Nebraska.
