5. He did
when he first came into office.

Since then, he..or somebody...has become aware of the suicidal nature of getting into either a trade or a shooting war with China.

6. China could roll-over and take Tawain any second
The only reason they don't is because even though are conventional military is spread thin, we still have the "Nukler" threat umbrealla over them and they know GW and his band of merry imperialist will have now problem use it.

7. Don't be so sure.
No nation has ever attempted an island assault in the modern era. With the accuracy of missiles and directed artillery these days, China would be hard pressed getting even one landing craft ashore, IMO. I can guarantee it would be a bloody nightmare.

Can you imagine a D-Day assault if the German had guided missiles to use against allied ships and heat-seeking missiles against the airborne?

8. All China has to do in launch missiles
and Taiwan...the couple of rocks that would be left of it...would sink into the sea.

Over with before anyone could react.

Wouldn't do anyone any good...but that would be the end of it.

10. hmmm - not sure if I disagree - BUT China has over 1.5 BILLION people

. . that's 5 times of the USA

and they are milleniums old

USA is a "baby" when it comes to nations - only a few centuries

No matter what

- the Chinese will NOT allow the USA to get even close to invading

- losing "face" is a big deal with alot of Asian people,

and the USA lost ALOT of "face" with the Eastern bloc when they attacked/invaded Iraq with no provocation (other than Junior's rhetoric)

USA is in a bad spot now

- their military might has been diminished by their lack of conscience.

I know we mostly blame Bush for all this,

but it comes right back down to the American Voter,

and those citizens that did NOT vote.

Just My Humble Canuk Opinion

13. No Marines either
As far as I know the only nation with an extensive amphibious assault capability is the US. And I think the last great beach landing was in the Korean War. China DOES have a huge military that would provide plenty of cannon fodder, however.

They would also keep the US Navy at bay with their SS-N-26 antiship missiles, which go Mach 2.5 barely above sea level with an erratic flight path at a range of 180 miles. They carry either a 500is lb explosive or small tactical nuclear warhead.

Seated beside Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in the Oval Office, Bush told reporters: "We oppose any unilateral decision by either China or Taiwan to change the status quo, and the comments and actions made by the leader of Taiwan indicate that he may be willing to make decisions unilaterally to change the status quo, which we oppose."

Only more proof that independence or democracy(Our version of..) can only be granted by the almighty US.

12. "democracy can only be granted by the almighty US" - - well DUH !

. . "Only more proof that indepence or democracy can only be granted by the almighty US."

. . AND THIS IS NEWS ??

IF the USA succeeds in pushing it's empirical will on the rest of the world, it would be a first in recorded history.

It may succeed for a period of time, but no city, state, country, planet, will put up with being enslaved forever.

My concern is that this generation and a few hereafter will have to live with this madman's actions

While the American sheeple watch

(sigh)
