Schwarzenegger Retreats on Key Campaign Vows
<snip>

Retreating from two central campaign promises that helped make him governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday dropped his personal "guarantee" that cities and counties would be compensated for billions in lost car-tax revenue and reversed his pledge to safeguard spending for public schools.

It was a stupid, unrealistic idea in the first place. The problem isn't so much that Arnie was either deluded or lying, but that common sense should have dictated to the voters that less tax revenues would have to mean less spending. Well, this is what your "revenge" on Gray Davis over your raised car taxes has gotten you.

14. You know, not everybody in "Kallie-fornia" voted for this scum.
Urban and coastal areas here are pretty solidly Democratic still, and the state will inevitably become increasingly urbanized as time goes by, which is good for us politically. Just because a bunch of us were starstruck into stupefaction is no reason to write off the whole state. I noticed. I care. And I'm pissed...

32. I didn't vote for him, either
Those in this state who voted for him voted for his character in Terminator---which, interestingly seems to be in constant rotation on either SpikeTV or TNT or USA or SciFi. Those who voted him in actually have the temerity to believe that nothing catastrophic will happen to them now that they've put this movie's character in the Governor's office in Sacto.

One month after this debacle, the fires broke out in Southern California. Those folks who put out fires, heros that they are, don't work for free. They've got homes and mortgages and insurance, cars, families, doctor bills like everyone else. They incur huge overtime working fires and that money has to come from somewhere to pay them. The state of California's lending status is decimated.

Now, what happens today in the state of California? Severe cut backs in emergency services begins today--fire, police and emergency workers now have no revenue from which to draw their paychecks. That money was to be provided by the car tax increase which Arnold gave back.

Well, now if your house catches fire, better get out what you can get out because you may not get a fire engine for about 30 minutes. Your child has developmental issues and is enrolled in enhanced classes? Too bad--no more money for his/her care.. you go into respiratory distress as a result of this flu epidemic and call the ambulance.. there is going to be a wait.

And don't hold your breath waiting on him to get back that Enron money for the state. See, he's well fed, his kids and wife have a comfortable home, clothes on their backs, he is comfortable, so why should he be concerned if anyone else is not? He can afford higher electric bills, so this impact doesn't affect him negatively. Consequently, it effects no one negatively. Therefore, there is no problem in the state of California because Arnold has no problems paying his bills.

People's needs aren't going to evaporate like the fat Arnold thought existed and based his whole campaign fantasy on, only to find out Davis wasn't bluffing---there wasn't any fat to cut in the budget.

57. True
Not every voter in California voted for him, unfortunately the majority of Californians did.

I would assume that you and others like you tried to get the word out,
but due to the media no one heard what you were trying to say.

But now ALL Californians have to live with it, I feel sorry for you,
but not sorry for the brain dead idiots that thought they were voting
for the guy that killed the Predator.

This may sound mean and cruel but I really do think that the next time one of Arnolds suppoters needs a cop or a fireman, they get told
"I'm sorry but we don't have the personnel to respond to your call. Due to the current budget deficit some staff had to be layed off."

The truly terrible thing is that the children will suffer the most, not only the children of those that voted for Nazi Man, but the ones
whose parents actually cared about them to not vote for the clown.

I will say a prayer for those that didn't vote for him, and for the
children whose parents failed them by putting this power hungry liar
into office. By all I have for those that did help to elect him is contempt, and that's something me and God will have to work on.

Good Luck California, you're going to need it.

Interestingly, the Silicon Valley (highly educated w Stanford and Berkely grads everywhere)voted 2-1 against the Gropenator. The ones that voted for him were either star-struck morons, repugs, or males age 18-30. We also have a number of regions in the state that make Mississippi look liberal.

18. Well... that might not be accurate either...
... they very well could lose Mickey.

Just last week Roy Disney Jr. (nephew of the late great Walt Disney) resigned from the board of the company. It was done as a form of protest, in an attempt to get Micheal Eisner to step down as chairman. He hasn't like the direction in wich Eisner has led his uncle's company. He has cited Eisner's leadership as responsible for the company's current reputation of being a souless corporate monster out for the quick buck. A few days later Roy's biggest supporter on the board also resigned in protest. The remaining board members have suggested that Roy doesn't have the clout to pull this regime change off.

However, I beleive they have failed to consider the fact that it is Roy Disney Jr., not Disney Co., that holds sole copyrights to all the classic characters. Disney Co. has no legal claim to Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Donald & Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, etc... If Disney Co. try and screw Roy over, he can pull all the characters out of the parks, and off all the shelves... leaving the house the Mouse built nothing but an empty shell. Honestly, I really hope it doesn't come to that.

47. Roy owns the largest share of mickey...
Mickey Mouse (or more precisely, his owner, Disney Studios ) is the one who persuaded Congress to extend copyright protection in the Sonny Bono Term Extension Act. The Act adds another 20 years to the current copyright term, making it 70 years plus the life of the author. - Marci A. Hamilton

Professor Marci A. Hamilton holds the Paul R. Verkuil Chair in Public Law at the Benjamin N. Cardoza School of Law, Yeshiva University, where she is the founding Director of the Intellectual Property Law Program. She has been a visiting scholar at Princeton Theological Seminary, the Center of Theological Inquiry, and Emory University School of Law.

http://writ.news.findlaw.com/hamilton/20021024.html

Roy Disney is a huge share holder in Disney Studios, in fact he is the largest individual shareholder so I guess he owns the largest share of mickey. I'm inclined to believe Roy's ownership of the copyright may be nothing but a new urban myth in the making. Just my opinion.

20. We need energize state legislators to oppose Gov. Groper.
As those of us interested in issues, which was a minority last October- the chickens have come home to roost. Arni has no answers.
Three campaign promises broken..1- He would not reduce school funiding.2- The repealed car tax would not hurt local government-libraties, firefighters, police.)3- He would investigate his own groper charges.
Gray Davis followed this petitioners would be out with recall petitions..Did any of us know the answer to debt is more debt. That was not a campaign pledge that he verbalized. Wish a recall was possible. Is that good for California still?
We must energize state legislators to oppose Arni.Write them. Call into question Arni's reality.. He was elected on platitudes and to raise Arni's short comings helps to inform fellow Californian's of his shallowness. Are we out there protesting before our police get laid off.? Are we out there protesting before our schools get cut further..? Write letters to the papers, questioning the specifics of Arni's programs..Let the public know some of us realize Arni is a bafoon...
Embolden our legislators to question what Arni is doing before his programs do not get a proper hearing... I feel a letter to the Speaker of the Assembly and President of the State Senate is necessary to stop Arni from snow balling this state into backwater state status.. Our public support of our schools was already one of the lowerst per capita expenditures per student before Arni..
