Hillary puts chill on Al's party plans
<snip>

Once upon a time, the Clintons and the Gores shared everything, from political tickets to intimate White House dinners.
But those days seemed long gone yesterday after the former vice president charged that the Democratic Party - the party of Bill and Hillary Clinton - needed to be "remade" as "a force for justice and progress and good in America."

The usually loquacious Sen. Hillary Clinton offered a stony, one-word answer when asked whether she agreed with her husband's once-loyal veep.

"No," said Clinton.

1. It should be noted the article mentions little of it is about Howard Dean
Quoting the article

"Behind the scenes, observers said the frosty response had more to do with 2008 - when both Gore and Hillary Clinton are projected as potential presidential contenders - than current affairs."

2. But does that analysis make sense
Why would Gore want to run in 2008 but not when Chimpy was highly vulnerable?

25. Doesn't make sense to me either
Why would Gore wait 5 more years and then come out against Hillary? I think she really disagreed with his desision to come out for a candidate so early in the game.

4. you know, all the coverage about this endorsement has eventually
turned to 2008. The first piece I saw on it had Clinton mentioned within the first minute....or whether Lieberman felt betrayed or not.

Gore endorsed Dean in 2004. That's the story, all the rest is political survivor island....

5. What a Joke
Campaign 2000: Al Gore only narrowly won against the worst presidential candidate in recent American history, while Hillary Clinton helped raise money for Senator Maria Cantwell's campaign reimbursement fund.

Campaign 2002: Al Gore was largely invisible.

Campaign 2004: When their country needed them most, Al and Hillary were maneuvering for presidential bids in 2008.

Frankly, I hope they're both history in 2005. I think it's really cool that the Clintons command so much respect and affection around the world, simply because it's a slap in George Bush's face. But if they're the best the Democratic Party can come up with, then the future looks awfully gloomy.

6. the 2008 theory doesn't make any sense to me
Isn't Gore in the middle of creating liberal radio shows or some form of liberal media? If he succeeds in this new endeavor, then he may be more instrumental in changing the Democratic party in the long run than attempting to be Prez again.

If he was still interested in the Presidency, I think he would have jumped in for the 2004 election...but instead he decided not too and went on SNL doing hot tub skits and a Bachelor spoof giving Lieberman the rose. These aren't the actions of a man who has a secret plot to take over in '08.

As far as the Clinton angle goes, I don't care what the personal relations are between Gore and the Clintons, I have a hard time believing that every action of every well known Democrat is somehow connected with Bill and Hillary. This reeks of freeper logic to me...they can't let go of either Clinton.

8. I agree with your post Gloria
It doesn't make sense that Gore would launch
into another Presidential campaign in '08.
I can see Hillary running but not Al.

12. You left out the only sane part of this article:

"I think we are in the middle of a primary campaign, and I want to see who emerges as the candidate," Clinton said. "And I will support whoever that nominee is."
****
In other words the Clintons are statesmen. Gore is not. End of story.

14. What if?
If Bill Clinton were to endorse Clark today would you claim he wasn't a statesman for doing so? Hillary was the one who made the remark you're referring to, had Bill ever said he wouldn't endorse before the primary??

I could be wrong, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if Bill endorsed Clark, you'd be pretty damn happy...and for good reason. End of story.

26. Bill doesn't need to endorse anybody...
Bill has already implied support for Clark...that's more than good enough.

Clark is his own man. Doesn't need a bigger name than his endorsing him.

22. I would like to see Bill Clinton get involved again...
But it would make sense for him not to endorse any one candidate yet. Once the primaries are over and the Democratic party has a clear candidate Bill can lend a great deal of strength to whomever is chosen to go up against Junior. Bill offered to help Gore in his 2000 campaign, but Gore instead chose to distance himself from the Clintons after the Lewinsky fiasco.

I hope the winner of the Democratic Primary will have the common sense to ask Bill for help, or accept help if it is offered. For now though, I hope Mr. C. keeps away from all this... Save the big guns for the big fight.

When it all comes down to it, reguardless of who wins the primary, our goal should be the removal of this Idiot King sitting in our White House. If we fail in that endeavor, the dopey bastard might get us all killed before 2008.

28. I know it is tough but...
Why can't anybody think that Al Gore is simply doing what he feels is best for his party. I may or may not agree with him...haven't made up my mind yet, but his actions appear to me as those of a person who believes his party has been heading in the wrong direction, and as an influential voice, he is trying to influence this.

I honestly think it is that simple and he is not running for office in 2008...I wouldn't bet the farm on this but I think it is more likely than not.
