Clark Pokes Fun at Clinton 'Conspiracy'

By KATE McCANN
Associated Press Writer

SOMERSWORTH, N.H. (AP) -- So, is there any truth to the rumor that Wesley Clark is Bill and Hillary Clinton's Democratic presidential candidate of choice?

The question came up again during Clark's visit to a high school Wednesday.

Clark poked fun at the idea, toying with the thought that there was a "conspiracy" between him and the Clintons.

"It makes sense. Our names both begin with 'Cl.' We're both from Arkansas. We both studied at Oxford as Rhode Scholars," Clark said, straightfaced. "There must be some connection there."

3. John Nichols who writes for The Nation Was Outrageous This Morning
On Amy Goodman's show Democracy Now! he was asked about yesterday's debate and he said the most interesting moment was when Wesley Clark was asked about whether he'd thought about Clinton possibly endorsing him. John Nichols came out point blank and said that Clinton is the one who got Wesley Clark into the race. He said it based on the fact that Clinton and Clark are both from Arkansas, both are Rhodes Scholars and both worked in the same administration. He did admit that Clinton and Clark have never really been close friends. Nichols is trippin', really, really trippin' and he's been trippin' like this in his columns in The Nation without having one iota of substantive proof that Clark is a Clinton operative, although he keeps up with the innuendo that Clark is just keeping Hillary's seat warm on the campaign bus. It's outrageous. John Nichols is lying to America. He's a liar. He also calls himself a journalist. He calls himself a journalist who has completely ignored the fact that thousands upon thousands of individuals including myself were in the Draft Clark movement since early to mid 2003 and numbered only second to the Dean movement on the Internet Meet-Up groups and pledged a great deal of money to the Clark campaign before he ever decided to run and before Bill Clinton even suggested through second hand quotes from a cocktail party that Clark was one of the two stars of the Democratic Party. Wesley Jr., Clark's son described to a small group of us in Los Angeles, only three days after his father decided to run, the fact that it was the Draft Clark people, yes the people, who made Clark get involved in the race. On the week-end before his father decided, he told us that Wes Clark was still undecided at that point and what made him throw his hat in the ring was the fact that thousands of us in all 50 states, across the country, in every walk of life were urging him to run. We were writing thousands of letters, we were opening dozens of internet sites, we were forming dozens of Yahoo! Groups and other blogs, we were meeting and we were pledging money, real money, in the hopes that Wesley Clark would choose to listen to his countrymen and women and decide to run. But "journalists" like John Nichols either don't want to know this information, or do not mention this information and would prefer to show things in the worst possible light. Sometimes, you wonder whether the liberal press is any better than the conservative in its failure to report the truth.

5. nope
The media is not going to let facts get in the way of any story they want to write -- doesn't really matter much how the lean politically.

6. Agreed....
I've subscribed to The Nation for 3 years, but no longer. ANY (print or TV) media with an 'agenda' is no longer a media I am interested in. I was pretty freaked out when I read the Clark article, which appeaered to be all perception and no substance. Isn't that what the tabloids and People do. Sad, but so be it.

9. I see it as a GOOD thing.
I think highly enough of Big Dawg that a Clinton endorsement is a high praise for a candidate.

8. I hate to tell you this, but
NONE of that precludes Clinton's involvement.

Or Jackson Stephens', for that matter.

7. Clark handles "journalists" & media hits better than any candidate
He seems to be very aware that he is running against the media, not Bush. That is one of the main reasons why I decided to support him...
