I doubt he'll even get half the votes he got in 2000 and the repukes will fall all over themselves contributing big bucks to his campaign and feeding his (and their) ego.

AWOL is losing his stronghold on repukes. Lot's of repukes are over him and will stay home in 2004 or vote for the dem candidate. That plus at least half of nader votes for the dems will assure a dem landslide. So, let the repukes rejoice that nader may be running. let them donate their hard earned cash to his campaign and glut and gloat. The tidal wave will drown their sorrows next november.

it should be someone other than Nader. I think he is bigger than the party and does it a disservice --- I think a lot of progressives might be more inclined to take the Greens seriously and be more receptive to their platform if their nominee was not someone they loathed.

I agree with you that if the Greens field a candidate, as is most likely, it should be someone other than Nader. However, the basis that Nader is a pariah among Democrates is not a good one, since any Green candidate could become so by definition.

A stronger case to me is that Greens should prefer to run a candidate who is actually a member of the party. This would also be consistent with a belief in bottom-up organization.

What I keep hearing from people who voted for Nader in 2000 and don't regret the decision is that Nader didn't have any effect on the outcome of the election. If that's the case, why would Nader running again have any effect this time either and "force" the Democrats to do anything?

I'm really not afraid of Nader. IF he runs he will get even fewer votes than he got in 2000. A lot of Dems voted for him but they've wised-up now. IMO,He'll only get his hard-core supporters and they are few and unlikely to vote Dem either way.

No difference between Bush and Gore. Gore would certainly have gone for the doctrine of pre-emption and alienated the entire international community. He also would have pushed for "faith-based initiatives". Yep, no difference between those two. He would also have pulled out of the Kyoto treaty and enacted the "Clear Skies" initiative. And he also would have appointed John Ashcroft as attorney general. Yep, no difference between those two.

Those people who are going to vote for him could never be persuaded to vote for a Democrat anyway, unless it was Dennis Kucinich. If they have no intention to vote for a Democrat, we aren't losing any votes, anyway. Also, as previously mentioned on this board, after the damage Bush has done in the last three years, I think he'll get a lot less votes this time. In three years, we have a lot more dead Iraqis, US and coalition soldiers, and a lot more people without legs, arms and eyes.

29. I really hope you are correct. I don't think I can emotionally tolerate

4 more years of G.W. Bush. Everyday that I read the news, he has done some new and horrible thing to eleminate the middle class and create a big Latin American style Fascist government. I dream about what he is doing to the country at night. lol But not really lol, and I hear I am not alone.
