Dean Campaign Plans 'Perfect Storm' Sweep

DES MOINES, Iowa -- More than 3,500 Howard Dean supporters will storm into the state over the next five weeks to try to earn the former Vermont governor a victory in the Iowa caucuses, state campaign officials said Thursday.

Called "The Perfect Storm: Powered by People," the effort is aimed at getting volunteers to knock on more than 200,000 doors and call more than 50,000 people to rally support for Dean in Iowa's leadoff precinct caucuses on Jan. 19.

"People on this campaign ... understand that if they send the governor out of here with a bang he'll go far," Jeani Murray, Dean's Iowa campaign director, said during a conference call with reporters.

Murray said more than 3,500 people from 47 states have already signed up -- and they hope to have 5,000 -- for the four weekend sweeps leading up to the caucuses. Most will stay at winterized camps, including Girl Scout camps, while other volunteers in Iowa will be asked to host the out-of-towners.

The Dean staff is QUITE diverse and there black Dean staffers throughout, handling policy, outreach, web development, scheduling, press, etc. One of the deputy campaign directors is a black woman. So please don't assume.

Seems like he asked a logical question that everyone evidently gets hostile about. Blacks are always kept in the stable when it comes to politics it seems. I hope Dean is different, and allows all volunteers to participate whether we encourage whites or blacks to follow the message. Color should not be an issue, but I feel the same way about all candidates running for office.

Maybe the 90% of us that vote Democratic are taken for granted, and you pursuits of whites is more important and perhaps we might infringe on it.
