In oversight, Iowa judge grants lesbian divorce, then lets it stand
SIOUX CITY, Iowa, Dec. 12 — A county judge approved a divorce for a lesbian couple who obtained a civil union in Vermont, saying he didn't realize he was signing a settlement for a same-sex couple, but ultimately decided to let his decision stand.

Iowa is one of 37 states whose law bans same-sex marriage.

State Sen. Neal Schuerer accused Judge Jeffrey Neary on Thursday of ''judicial activism at its worst.''

3. Iowa law doesn't prevent gay divorce
now does it? In fact, if it prohibits gay marriage, it would seem logical that it would be obliged to provide annulments or divorces to gay spouses.

4. Actually, it could be argued that this action
legitimizes gay marriage in Iowa. How could they be legally divorced if they weren't legally married?
