Military police probe first deadly breach of a US base in Iraq

RAMADI, Iraq (AFP) - Military police are investigating how a suicide bomber for the first time got through the front gate of a US military base in an attack that killed one soldier and wounded 14, a spokesman said.


"Still under investigation, all that," Sergeant First Class Craig Pickett, spokesman for the 82nd Airborne Division based here, told AFP when asked whether the truck had permission to enter the base.


Edgy sentries took aim and waved off any approaching cars Friday.


"Vehicles are searched. How that one got in and all that is all under investigation," Pickett said.
