BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
A U.S. soldier was fatally wounded and two others were hurt on Friday in a blast near the flashpoint Iraqi town of Ramadi, west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Friday.
The soldiers were in a convoy when the attack occurred around 6:30 a.m. local time and one died of his wounds in hospital, the military said in a statement.
The attack followed a suicide car bombing at a base of the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division near Ramadi on Thursday in which one U.S. soldier died and 14 were wounded.
A suicide car bomb attack on a military base in Iraq's north on Tuesday wounded nearly 60 U.S. soldiers. A suicide bomber also blew himself up near a separate base on Tuesday.
Iraqi insurgents bombarded the fortified headquarters of the U.S.-led coalition in Baghdad early on Friday, the first attack on the compound since U.S. forces launched a mass anti-guerrilla offensive a month ago.
Since the start of the war to oust Saddam Hussein, 312 U.S. soldiers have been killed in action, 197 of them in guerrilla attacks since major combat was declared over on May 1
