Revealed: Rudy's '08 Battle Plans -- Fatal Media Leak?
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 09:04 PM by NoodleyAppendage
It's clearly laid out in 140 pages of printed text, handwriting and spreadsheets: The top-secret plan for Rudy Giuliani's bid for the White House.

The remarkably detailed dossier sets out the budgets, schedules and fund-raising plans that will underpin the former New York mayor's presidential campaign - as well as his aides' worries that personal and political baggage could scuttle his run.

At the center of his efforts: a massive fund-raising push to bring in at least $100 million this year, with a scramble for at least $25 million in the next three months alone.

The loss of the battle plan is a remarkable breach in the high-stakes game of presidential politics and a potentially disastrous blunder for Giuliani in the early stages of his campaign.

The document was obtained by the Daily News from a source sympathetic to one of Giuliani's rivals for the White House. The source said it was left behind in one of the cities Giuliani visited as he campaigned for dozens of Republican candidates in the weeks leading up to the November 2006 elections.

2. Wish I could take credit. Guilani was our greatest threat.
Now all the Repukes have is McCain with his losing position of sending more troops off to die or a Mormon who wants to use gay marriage as a wedge issue.

3. I didn't really mean you did it - I meant the BIG GUY - the Real FSM -
must be on our side. :D

Also - don't count the Rethugs out - Chuck Hagel is positioning himself right now as the moderate who opposes * plans to escalate troops. Hagel worked for Daddy Bush years ago and owned the voting machine company that is now ES&S. He won one of his first elections to congress with something like an 85% win - the biggest upset victory of that election!

He's done already.

9. Good question. Someone with knowledge of reports existence and who was carrying it.
I suspect someone snagged the luggage holding the dossier either before it hit the belts or after it was already on the carrol. The former prospect suggests a level of sophistication and access to airport areas not allowed to the common public. Spook stuff here.

11. Other than being really careless, why is this so bad for Rudy?
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 10:43 PM by mconvente
I mean, I'll take it definitely if it costs Rudy the bid, but what's the big deal? He identified his potential problems (3 marriages, etc.), but people knew that already anyway. I don't see what's the big deal, but I'll take it!

14. Dossier provides instruction manual to media on where to dig up skeletons...
Also, the high impact donors that are named in the dossier are likely to be unhappy about the publicity and might think twice about contributing.

15. No chance it's a decoy?
I mean 140 pp of supposedly confidential, handwritten notes just...left behind? That's beyond careless when your goal is POTUS.

Anyway, I just thought it was fair to consider the possibility.

18. Rovian tactic? Hmmm...
Didn't occur to me, but what would be the benefit of airing one's dirty laundry and highlighting your weak points and possible "skeletons in the closet?"

21. Maybe if it's fake dirty laundry.
If the press gets tired of digging empty holes, maybe they'll give up on where the bodies are really hidden?

That's the only thing I can think of: discredit potentially damaging sources early, send the investigative reporters on wild goose chases, and list donors who are actually planning on financing whomever the BFEE candidate is to publicize their financial dealings in advance.

Too clever by half and damned dangerous, considering whom they're dealing with. I'd put my money behind Karl Rove, Jeb Bush, and the DIA.

16. Rudy's pro choice. There isn't room for a pro choice candidate to win the Thug Primary.
This is fun but Rudy was never a threat to win (or place).

That skeezy Ron Silver got hold of Jimmy Smits' briefcase that was left behind by an aide and found something inside, I can't remember what.
