2 Hussein Co-Defendants to Be Executed Thursday, Official Says
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- An Iraqi government official told The Associated Press on Wednesday that preparations were under way to hang two of Saddam Hussein's co-defendants on Thursday.

Al-Arabiya satellite television and Al-Furat TV, run by Iraq's major Shiite Muslim political organization, both also reported that Saddam's half brother Barzan Ibrahim, a former intelligence chief, and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, the former chief justice of the Revolutionary Court, would be put to death Thursday.

The government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information, said the exact place and time of the hangings had not been set.

The two co-defendants were originally scheduled to hang last Saturday along with Saddam.

Iraqi official says no date set for Barzan hanging

BAGHDAD, Jan 3 (Reuters) - Iraqi authorities have not yet set a date to hang Saddam
Hussein's half-brother and a former judge convicted with him for crimes against
humanity, a senior adviser to the prime minister said on Wednesday.

Arabic news channels reported that Barzan al-Tikriti, Saddam's half-brother and former
intelligence chief, and Awad al-Bander, a former chief judge, could be hanged as early
as Thursday morning, but Sami Al-Askari, a senior aide to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki,
said no date had been set.

"This is not accurate information. Most probably they will be executed next week after
the holiday," Askari told Reuters.

4. Saddam aides’ execution postponed to Sunday
BAGHDAD - The execution of two former henchmen of ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been postponed by three days to Sunday, a Shia lawmaker and an Iraqi government official both told AFP.

Barzan Ibrahim Al Tikrit, Saddam’s half-brother and former intelligence chief, and Awad Ahmed Al Bandar, the head of the revolutionary court, were to be hanged Thursday.

“I am sure it will be done on Sunday,” said Shia MP Baha Al Araji from the group of radical cleric Moqtada Al Sadr.

Another senior official with Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki’s office said that the execution was postponed “due to international pressure.”
