Second U.S. carrier group to deploy to Gulf: sources
Second U.S. carrier group to deploy to Gulf: sources
Wed Jan 3, 2007 3:21pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon will send a second aircraft carrier and its escort ships to the Gulf, defense officials said on Wednesday, as a warning to Syria and Iran and to give commanders more flexibility in the region.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Bremerton, Wash.-based USS John C. Stennis strike group would deploy this month. It will put 5,000 more U.S. sailors in the region, bringing the total to 16,000.

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier group entered the Gulf in December.

3. We have to build the case up first through investigations
and then they can impeach

In fact if illegal activities are found, along with abuse of power ranging from illegal wiretaps to violating the IWR Congress MUST do its job and impeach

4. I hope that none of the contingencies
involve war against Iran.

Abizaid Wants Additional Navy Carrier in Persian Gulf (Update1)

By Tony Capaccio

Dec. 20 (Bloomberg)

<snip>

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman declined during a session with reporters to discuss carrier moves. "We move ships where we believe we need to have ships," he said. ``We don't talk about those movements, we don't talk about those plans and we don't talk about those contingencies.''

Although the officials said the carrier request isn't directly aimed at Iran, the U.S. accuses Iran of trying to interfere in the politics of neighboring Iraq by supporting Shiite Muslim militias, of financing and arming Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, and seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

The Pentagon in its latest quarterly report to Congress on Iraq wrote that ``Iran and Syria are undermining the government of Iraq's political process by providing both active and passive support'' to anti-government forces.

10. More saber rattling
Syria and Iran have been making NO threatening moves.

In fact, they were both warming up to the prospect of working with the US on minimizing the damage in Iraq.

This escalation in a phony dispute is so transparent.

But can Congress do anything?

9. Isn't it hell to have a commander-in-chief that strikes terror in the
hearts of people around the world when he makes any kind of war threats? Remember the days when moving troops and ships caused concern but not fear of a colossal fiasco about to occur.

Hope we are only over-reacting. It is hard to believe that so many in Washington don't fear him by now after so many f**kups with the handling of Iraq. bush has proven he is capable of anything, forget it making any sense.
