I was on two Naval ROTC summer cruises with Bill Fallon and in the same aviation program in Pensacola after graduation. He seemed the least likely of anyone I knew to make a craeer out of the Navy, much less to rise to the top. That's about as amazing as having a chimp for Commander-in-Chief

Bush will replace Gen. John P. Abizaid, the top U.S. commander in the Middle East, and Gen. George Casey, the chief general in Iraq, in the coming weeks, according to media reports Thursday. A revamping of the administration's national security team was already under way.

Bush wants to replace Abizaid with Adm. William Fallon, the top U.S. commander in the Pacific, and Casey's replacement will be Army Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, who headed the effort to train Iraqi security forces, the reports citing administration officials said.

17. I see this as ramping up for the next war.

The Iran assault will start as a naval build-up followed by carrier air strikes and sea launched cruise missile attacks. Fallon has been in the air attack business for most of his career and has taken a very hawkish stance on Iran. I served with him as an NROTC midshipman on two summer cruises and later on in the Naval Air Training Command in Pensacola. He wound up in the back seat of the Navy's R-A5C Vigilante photo reconnaissance plane thanks to poor grades in Pensacola. I remember him as an affable fuck-up who would definitely be Dubya's kind of guy. I did a little Google search on my old shipmate and found that they love him at FreeRepublic.
