Police locate and tow wanted Chevy Tahoe
KUSA – Early Thursday morning police found the 1998 white Chevrolet Tahoe they had been looking for in relation to the Darrent Williams murder case.

The vehicle was towed to a police impound lot from 38th and Himalaya where it was originally located.

Police say they learned the location of the vehicle from people passing by that noticed it was the wanted vehicle and contacted them.

Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson says someone spotted the SUV parked south of Denver International Airport, and called police about 6:30 a.m.

Jackson says the community "came through."

7. What's even stranger
Is that, according to Google maps, Himalaya and 38th don't intersect. Cue the Twilight Zone music!

I live in Denver, but I'm not familiar with that area.

2. I hope they can pull some prints off of it
.......

Maybe now that this has happened the Denver City govt. will pull their heads out of their asses about the gang problems in Denver. I was astonished when that witness was killed - now it turns out the same people are possibly involved in the Williams murder.

There has been a real increase in tagging in my neighborhood in the last few years - I don't live all that far from the nightclub where this started.

5. there was a real problem several years ago -
maybe more like 10 years plus -
anyway,
a lot of LA gang members were moving here to Denver - lots of violence in the Park Hill/PH annex area, also in 5 points. Not that kind of thing where I live, but there was a lot of tagging and petty crime. The police, at some point, literally ran the gang members out on a rail (they knew who they were) and packed them off back to LA. During that period of time there was a lull in gang activity and violence. Over the last couple of years, it's really started to make a comeback - a big increase in tagging, some high profile shootings, etc. When you've got groups of people wearing all red or all blue out to nightclubs - you've got a problem.

And the city's response, as near as I can tell, has been to ignore it and hope it goes away. I know they cut funding to some of the anti-gang units.

Now it looks like they won't be able to ignore it any more.

4. tagging and other gang signs.

I noticed the increase in tagging around downtown Denver as well. I don't know about other gang activities, but this is going to be a real issue for Mayor Hickenlopper. Forget the snow removal, development, homeless, or election reform. This is something that will haunt his election.

Personally, I subscribe to the Broken Window Policy and increase enforcement of petty crimes along with job opportunities and education is going to help stop this gang activities.

They were successful with some of the homeless problems, hopefully the Mayor's office will work this issue as well.

6. part of the city's problem
is that Denver has been in a recession for six years. Sales tax revenue is way down. There's not a lot of money to pay for programs to help stop the gangs.

Not to make excuses for Hick - I'm not that big a fan of his. He's got a great PR team, though. Something tells me he's going to need it.
