'US Diplomat and General and Struggled to Delay Execution of Saddam’
&category=World

This caught my eye...

The NYT says Amb. Khalilzad “even made a last-ditch call to Maliki asking him not to proceed with the hanging. But, Maliki was adamant to go forward.”

It appears Khalilzad then contacted Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice “and she gave the green light for Mr. Hussein to be turned over, despite the reservations of the military commanders in Baghdad,” notes the NYT, adding that Stephen Hadley, Bush’s National Security Adviser, supported Rice’s decision.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice “and she gave the green light for Mr. Hussein to be turned over, despite the reservations of the military commanders in Baghdad,”

===She's also a pathetic sycophant for gw bush.

"W" wanted saddam executed
and said so before the trial even started.

1. because he loves executions.
2. Because he had some strange idea that killing saddam would
erase the embarrasment he felt for his father losing the election to clinton

(which he attributed to bush 41 not going into bagdad and deposing saddam during the first persian gulf war).
