FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RELEASE No. 20070108-01
Jan. 8, 2007

Troops Attacked North of Baghdad
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD – A Multi-National Division - Baghdad patrol was engaged by small arms
fire, killing one Soldier north of the Iraqi capital Jan. 7.

The unit was repairing a crater in a road caused by an improvised explosive device
when they came under small arms fire, killing one Soldier. No others were injured
in the incident.

The road, damaged by a terrorist act, is a heavily-traveled main north-south highway
leading in and out of the Iraqi capital. Engineers, with Soldiers providing security,
were in the process of repairing the highway to allow a better flow of civilian traffic
when they were attacked.

Earlier this week, units in this area aided in the capture of suspected insurgents
and located multiple improvised explosive devices.

The deceased Soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
